The Sussex roof has seemed to be a leaky one way before they left the Royal Family to pursue a different life in America.
Surprisingly, even after their grand exit, their staff has kept jumping ship left and right, and this holidays was no different. In fact, several staff members up and left out of the blue. Among their numbers were two key staff.
It’s natural to think that this must have been a big blow to the couple it affected. Surprisingly, they really didn’t have much to comment when it came to the exodus. Instead, they insisted that they’re reshaping their team to better serve their needs moving forward.
Royal Expert Reacts To the Sussexes’ Unfazed Response To Losing Key Staff
When a business keeps recycling through staff, anyone can be forgiven for guessing that though things might be clear on the surface, the waters are undoubtedly ruffled.
Regardless, Harry and Meghan lost a number of staff during the holidays and they didn’t lose their head over it either. This, according to royal biographer Jennie Bond, is extremely suspect.
When the Sussexes’ chief communications officer, Meredith Maines, quit after working in the position for a mere ten months, the couple’s spokesperson released this bland statement: “Meredith Maines and Method Communications have concluded their work with Archewell. The Duke and Duchess are grateful for their contributions and wish them well.”
In addition to Maines’ exit, James Holt, who also worked as the executive director at Harry and Meghan’s charity, the Archewell Foundation, stepped down from his role as well.
From 2019 to 2021, Holt also worked as the Head of Communications for the Duke and Duchess.
Commenting on this, Bond, who served as a BBC royal correspondent for several years, said, “There’s more of a mystery surrounding Meredith Maines’ resignation. She was brought in as something of a hotshot and has only been with the Sussexes for a year. I thought the couple’s response to her resignation was decidedly cool and confirmed suspicions that their professional relationship had become rather troubled.”
What Meredith Maines Has Said About the Sussex Team After Her Exit
However, Maines had nothing negative to report after spending some time working with the Sussex team. In her statement, she gushed, “After a year of inspiring work with Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Archewell, I will be pursuing a new opportunity in 2026. I have the utmost gratitude and respect for the couple and the team, and the good work they are doing in the world.”
Harry and Meghan did not immediately move to hire Maines’ replacement, instead letting UK and Europe director of communications, Liam Maguire, take over the role.
