Mariska Hargitay debuted on Law & Order SVU as fan fave Olivia Benson in 1999. The popular NBC drama is now in Season 25 and has spanned almost three decades.
Hargitay has become a household name after appearing on the series for 27 years.
The Law & Order star released an official statement today and shared exciting news with her fans. Hargitay has been tapped to host the Emmy Awards this Fall in September 2026.
That’s not all, she will actually be making television history and is the FIRST female Emmy host in 15 years!
Mariska Hargitay revealed, “Bringing important stories into the light has been the heartbeat of my career. It’s my great honor to host the 78th Emmy Awards — in the 100th birthday year of my beloved NBC — and celebrate this extraordinary community of storytellers.”

The Law & Order SVU actress added, “Regardless of how, where or when we watch, we are together in our laughter, our tears, our love of stories — and our delighted anticipation to see what happens next.”
Funny lady Jane Lynch was actually the last female Emmy’s host, and that was back in 2011. Prior to Lynch, Ellen DeGeneres hosted the star-studded awards show in 2001 and then again in 2005.
Other notable female hosts in the earlier years include big names like Oprah Winfrey, Jessica Lansbury, Joan Rivers, and Lucille Balle.
