Four-year-old Gus Lamont, who disappeared from a homestead in the outback of Australia in September, hasn’t been located. However, it seems that police no longer treat it as a missing person case. Notably, they now have a suspect for a true crime. Read on for more details.

The Updates Press Statement

7 News Australia aired a press statement delivered on Thursday by Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke. Sadly, the details of the investigation turned out to be what many folks always believed. Gus, it seems, might never be found.

Fielke recapped the massive search that took place but ended in failure to find the little boy. They never found any of the child’s belongings, and now, as many people feared, he said, “We have a high level of confidence that he hasn’t wandered off.”

Massive Searches Took Place

Actually, those who followed the story saw that the search was thorough and it involved the army, volunteers, police, helicopters, and more. Dams and mine shafts were checked out. Plus, they searched over 94 square kilometers (58 sq miles) around the Oak Park Station homestead.

Leaving no stone unturned, they even deployed specialized aircraft and AI technology. That aspect delivered zero results from about 706 square kilometers (438 sq miles). And, they turned up nothing, although early on they thought they found a single footprint.

Various Theories Were Considered

Many true crime watchers decided that abduction seemed the most likely reason for the disappearance. And, clearly, the police also thought along those lines. However, in the statement, even that suspicion seemed incorrect and they discounted that as well. Fielke explained the property’s extreme remoteness made an outside abduction “extremely low.”

So often, the first suspects appear to be family members; it’s not unusual that the police shifted their focus to Gus Lamont’s family. In the statement, he mentioned “a number of inconsistencies and discrepancies” in the information provided by family members.

Red-Flagged Family Member

Red flags arrived when one of those family members stopped cooperating with investigators. And now, that person is regarded as “a suspect.”

Additionally, information revealed that in mid-January, police obtained a search warrant for the Oak Park Station. There, they seized a vehicle, a motorbike, and some electronic devices for forensic testing.

Notably, if you believed that his dad was involved in abducting his son, you’d probably be wrong. The statement specifically noted that neither of Gus Lamont’s parents are suspects. While he couldn’t comment on exactly who it was, many people always suspected the grandparents. But for now, that’s still just speculation.

Still Trying To Find Gus

Unfortunately, he also mentioned the possibility of a “suspected death.” However, as they haven’t located Gus yet, it’s not known if he’s alive. In the wrap-up, the officer said that their goal is to “locate Gus and return him to his parents.” Plus, he also repeated a warning to the media to stay away from the homestead.

Four months have passed since the disappearance of Gus Lamont. Probably lots of people wanted to have their say, but all comments were turned off on mainstream reports. However, in the past, viewers of the case believed that Gus experienced something very bad.
