An 11-year-old girl in Cleveland, Ohio, was found delinquent after a trial over the brutal assault of a 5-year-old child. In juvenile court, being found delinquent is the equivalent of being found guilty in adult criminal court.

A Violent Attack

Two children were accused in connection with the assault, and both faced serious charges. People.com reported that the incident occurred Sept. 13, 2025, in a field near East 148th Street and St. Clair Avenue. The victim was just 5 years old at the time.

19 News reported on YouTube that Cleveland police said the victim was “violently attacked” and left in the field.

Testimony revealed that the victim’s clothes were removed and she was strangled with her own shirt. The news anchor noted that the details were “much too graphic for television.”

A Boy Pleads Guilty

Cleveland19.com reported that the boy, now 10, “pleaded guilty” on Sept. 28 to attempted rape and felonious assault. He was 9 when the attack occurred.

According to WKYC, the boy was originally facing nine counts alongside the girl, including attempted murder, rape, kidnapping, and strangulation.

His plea deal meant “the remaining counts were dismissed.” Cleveland19.com noted that the boy testified that the 11-year-old girl told him not to tell anyone about what happened. His disposition hearing is scheduled for Nov. 20.

Deemed Competent

Both children had to go through competency restoration before they stood trial. They were eventually deemed competent despite their very young ages.

People reported that Judge Kristin Sweeney found the girl, identified in court documents as M.H., delinquent on Oct. 2. Her charges included attempted murder, rape, kidnapping, felonious assault, and strangulation.

FOX 19 reported that Judge Sweeney declared the cumulative evidence proved beyond a reasonable doubt that “M.H.’s purpose was an attempt to cause death.”

M.H. remains in juvenile detention. She has to undergo a sex-offender evaluation, and her disposition hearing is set for Nov. 18.

Mother Speaks Out

After the court case, the 5-year-old victim’s mother talked to reporters about the huge toll on her family.

19 News on YouTube showed the mother saying, “I was very vulnerable. I told the whole world what had happened to my baby and I just was hoping hoping that somebody like you know they would help me fight.”

She added that her daughter spent several weeks hospitalized after the attack. She said, “I still have to deal with the daily behavioral changes.”

The mother also said, “I want her to know that… she needs to be able to live with that every day.”

Viewers React

People who watched the video found the age of the defendants hard to process. One person wrote, “I remember being 11 yrs old, I would never have even thought of any of this.”

Here are a few more comments from the discussion:

  • “The perpetrators learned that from someone.”
  • “Children engaging in acts that are too graphic to be discussed on tv, imagine that. Truly shameful and sad all the way around.”
  • “Prayers for this innocent 5 yr. old and her mom.”
