General Hospital spoilers and updates suggest that Steve Burton is thrilled after receiving a Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination for 2026, and he shared the surprising way he discovered this news.
Burton made a significant return on Monday, with his character, Jason Morgan, making a dramatic comeback.
Burton’s Return Coincided With His Daytime Emmy Nomination
After a three-month break, his return coincided with his Daytime Emmy nomination in the esteemed Lead Actor category.
Alongside his GH co-star and podcast partner, Bradford Anderson (Damian Spinelli), Burton posted a video on their YouTube channel where he reacted to the Emmy nomination.
Anderson remarked that July 13 was quite an eventful day for Burton, as it marked not only the return of his character during General Hospital’s landmark 16,000th episode but also the announcement of his Emmy nod.
Burton recounted to Anderson how he and his wife, Michelle Lundstrom Burton, learned about the nomination through an email from the Daytime Emmys detailing how the nominations would be disclosed.
Because of the time zone differences, the two found themselves a bit puzzled about where to check for nominations.
Burton Wound Up Googling For The Information
Burton took to Google, and just like that, he stumbled upon the news that he was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the lead actor category! Excitedly, Burton shared with Anderson, “I know it sounds cliché to say, ‘Oh, I’m just so honored to be nominated,’ but honestly, I am truly grateful for this nomination.”
The soap star also mentioned that Executive Producer Frank Valentini reached out to him via text, and Burton expressed his gratitude for the chance to be part of the show. Burton joins an impressive roster of daytime leading men in his category.
Burton Found Himself Among An Impressive Group
Nominees include Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) and Christian LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin) from The Young and the Restless (Y&R), along with Thorsten Kaye (Ridge Forrester) and Scott Clifton (Liam Spencer) from The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B).
Burton expresses his gratitude to GH’s Elizabeth Korte and Michelle Henry for crafting his Emmy reel for submission, and he also acknowledges Laura Wright (Carly Spencer) for suggesting some episodes he might want to include.
However, Burton emphasizes that this nomination serves as a tribute to the late Leslie Charleson, who portrayed his onscreen mother, Monica Quartermaine.
He reflects that much of his best material stemmed from her influence, and this Emmy recognition is a heartfelt homage to her legacy, especially considering Jason’s beginnings as a “Quartermaine” on the show.
General Hospital spoilers indicate that the Daytime Emmys will be held on Friday, October 30, giving fans a few months to anticipate who will take home the Lead Actor award, making it all the more exciting to see the outcome.
