General Hospital has several comings and goings set up for the month of July, including the return of legacy character Serena Baldwin.
Last month the soap opera confirmed Kelly Kruger would be joining the GH cast as the new Serena. But, why are they bringing the character back after twenty years?
Serena Baldwin’s Big Return
The last time Serena Baldwin was a regular character on General Hospital was back in 2003 when Carly Schroeder played the part. After her exit, Schroeder returned ONCE for her grandfather’s (Lee Baldwin) funeral in 2017.
It’s unclear why TPTB at General Hospital opted to recast the role of Serena. But, soap fans will recognize Kelly Kruger from The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful and she should fit right in in no time.
She also has quite a few friends in the daytime show bizz since she was married to Bold & Beautiful fan fave Darin Brooks (Wyatt Spencer).
Why Is Serena Coming Home
According to General Hospital spoilers, Serena Baldwin is summoned to Port Charles this summer by her mother Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring). Of course, longtime viewers know that Lucy isn’t Serena’s real mother.
Lucy served as Dominique Stanton and Scott Baldwin’s surrogate. After Dominique passed away, Lucy stepped up and helped Scott raise Serena.
Headwriter Chris Van Etten dished in a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, “Trouble at Deception means it’s Lucy’s (Lynn Herring) hour of need – and it is none other than her beloved daughter who heeds the call!”
Per reports, Kelly Kruger has signed on as a recurring cast member and will be in several episodes of the soap coming up this summer on ABC.
Are you excited that General Hospital is finally bringing back Serena Baldwin? Do you think that Kelly Kruger will do the legacy character justice?
