The true crime of the murder of Spencer and Monique Tepe in Columbus, Ohio, took a turn recently. A few days ago, NewsNation’s Natasha suggested that the suspect, Dr. Michael McKee, didn’t have a bad professional history and only surfaced with traffic violations. However, it seems he did have some issues with his vascular surgeon practice. Read on to find out more.
A Lawsuit In Nevada
People Magazine did some digging and found some legal documents from Las Vegas, Nevada, which seemed to show that he wasn’t as squeaky clean as first believed. In fact, the outlet reported that McKee was involved in a lawsuit in September last year.

Allegedly, Dr. Michael McKee got some accusations by a patient from “Clark County” which claimed that he’d not properly supervised a laser surgery. The outlet cited the documents saying:
Michael David McKee, M.D. [failed] to properly train or supervise [his co-worker] … caused [a] catheter or device to shear or fracture, leaving an 8.6-inch portion of the device in the plaintiff’s body.
It also claimed that the doctor “breached the standard of care.” And that the errors caused “lower extremity bleeding, edema, pain, discoloration, disfigurement, and other injuries.”
McKee Disappeared From Nevada
Interestingly, the lawyer for the plaintiff couldn’t get papers served because McKee disappeared. But eventually, the judge let the claim go through and set a court hearing for July next year. Well, by then, he might be in prison for the true crime of double murder.
It also seems interesting regarding the timing of the deaths of Spencer Tepe and his wife, Monique. By now, most people know that Monique and McKee married but only stayed together for a short while before they separated. And, the lawsuit papers were dated just a few days prior to the Ohio shooting. Plus, Spencer and Monique were about to celebrate a wedding anniversary.
Moving Around
It also seems that Michael McKee didn’t stay in one place, possibly because of his licenses to practice as a surgeon in Nevada, California, and Illinois. When he was arrested, police tracked him down from his car plates to Rockford, Illinois. The case against him suggests he traveled from Rockford to Columbus, Ohio, shot his ex and her husband before returning to Illinois.
This week, he pleaded not guilty in court and he will most likely be transferred to Ohio in the next few days. Other news that arrived suggested that the investigating officers found multiple firearms on McKee’s property, one of which matched the ballistics from the crime scene.
What are your thoughts? Are you surprised to hear that Michael McKee didn’t have a clean medical record as alleged by a complainant?
