Collin Gosselin’s childhood stories keep getting weirder by the day, and whether you side with mom Kate Gosselin or Collin, you can’t help but be amazed at the shocking nature of these stories.

This time around, Collin is claiming that he was locked in the basement and kept under surveillance for two years.

However, in a 2023 Instagram post where Kate commented on the matter, she said that the measures taken in their home were recommended by Collin’s psychiatric specialists and intended to protect the family, friends, and pets.

Kate has previously denied intentionally harming Collin and defended her parenting decisions.

Collin Gosselin Blows The Cover On His Allegedly Troubling Upbringing

Fans may recognize Collin from his time on the reality TV show Jon & Kate Plus 8, but he doesn’t want us to think that just because he grew up in the public eye, we know everything about his story.

As previously reported, Collin Gosselin announced plans to reveal his childhood experiences in a tell-all book.

In his memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, the 22-year-old claimed that his mom was particularly hard on him and how he acted or presented himself.

Following her split from husband Jon, the show would continue as Kate Plus 8.

During those days, according to Collin, Kate would slap him and yank his ear whenever he didn’t perform for the cameras the way she liked.

Collin also acknowledged that he could be a difficult child.

He admitted that his rebellion had evolved into more than quiet resistance. He sometimes talked back, threw tantrums, and struggled to express what he was feeling.

However, Collin’s allegations about his upbringing remain disputed, and Kate has previously defended her actions.

In fact, Kate Gosselin previously responded to Collin’s allegations about her parenting, insisting that decisions involving her son were made with his safety and the family’s well-being in mind.

Collin Gosselin On Being Separated From His Siblings As A Child

One of the most notable parts of Collin’s story might be when he said his mom lied to him that his father, Jon, didn’t want to see him anymore.

Despite this, Collin’s other siblings continued to meet and spend time with Jon.

Collin would later claim that he discovered from his father that the entire situation was a charade.

However, the worst part might be when he said his mother separated him from his brothers, Aaden and Joel, and moved him to an unfinished part of the basement.

According to Collin, the room was isolated from the rest of the household and monitored by surveillance cameras.

He described feeling trapped and separated from his siblings for an extended period.

Collin also recalled feeling that his place in the family was never secure and that his circumstances could always get worse.

According to Collin, this was a message to behave, or his situation would continue to deteriorate.

And this isn’t the first time the family’s strained relationships have made headlines.

These allegations are deeply disturbing, especially considering how young Collin was when the events allegedly occurred.

Growing up on reality television is difficult enough without the possibility of serious problems happening behind the scenes.

Of course, Kate has disputed aspects of Collin’s account, and the public doesn’t know everything that happened inside the Gosselin household.

Still, Collin’s decision to share his experiences in a memoir has certainly brought renewed attention to the family’s troubled history.
