Austin Tucker Martin, a 21-year-old from North Carolina, died after he allegedly committed a true crime at Mar-a-Lago on Sunday. Read on for more details about it.
The President Wasn’t Home
While Austin’s family remembers him as a quiet young man who was “afraid of guns,” law enforcement claimed a rather violent incident went down. Fortunately, Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, weren’t home at the time.
Over on YouTube, NewsNation took a look at the most recent reports. They reminded folks that it all went down at Mar-a-Lago very early on Sunday morning. At about 1:30 AM, a security breach happened at the north gate of the private club.
What Happened?
NewsNation correspondent Brooke Schaefer reported that a source in law enforcement confirmed that when security agents opened the gate so “a staff member” could exit, a chaotic situation ensued.

Allegedly, Austin Tucker Martin “ran through that then-open gate armed with a shotgun.” Naturally, being armed on a secure premises didn’t end well. Officials claimed he also carried a gas can with him.
Confrontation At The Perimeter
Immediately, local deputies and Secret Service agents confronted Austin. The outlet also shared a press briefing during their coverage. In it, the local sheriff described the rapid escalation of the “neutralized” threat.
According to the sheriff, Martin was instructed to abandon the items he carried. But instead of doing that, “he put down the gas can, [and] raised the shotgun to a shooting position.”
Seeing his allegedly aggressive stance, a deputy and “two Secret Service agents fired their weapons.” Well, Austin Tucker Martin died and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Reported Missing
Later, the FBI confirmed that the suspect was Austin Tucker Martin of Cameron. Some reports note that he was from nearby Carthage in North Carolina.
Interestingly, days before the alleged true crime, his family reported him missing. Naturally, his family never suspected he made his way to Mar-a-Lago. And certainly, it doesn’t sound as if they ever expected any sort of violent behavior from him.
Not a Violent Person?
According to a report credited to the Associated Press (AP), Martin’s cousin said that his relative was actually “afraid of guns, [and] didn’t know how to use them.” Additionally, his family seemed very supportive of President Donald Trump.
Of note, the sheriff also confirmed a quiet personality, judging by his arrest records, which sit at zero. Additionally, his job didn’t seem likely to get him into trouble. Apparently, his artistic nature led him to do amazing pictures of golf courses where he worked.
Unknown Motive
So far, a motive seems elusive. However, investigators apparently check for one. That’s because recently, Martin apparently developed some fixations. Allegedly, he grew rather vocal about the “Epstein Files.”
A co-worker alleged that Austin Tucker Martin told them that “evil is real and unmistakable.” And, he reportedly also urged others to work hard exposing perceived government cover-ups.
If you think it seems a bit odd that someone from a Trump-supporting family might have had bad intentions at Mar-a-Lago, well, it’s a bit of a head-scratcher for the FBI as well. Already, they don’t think there’s any evidence linking the breach to anti-Trump sentiment.
For now, the FBI has the “lead on the case.” It’s early days yet, but apparently, they are checking out background information and local security footage.
Viewers React
In the comments section of the NewsNation coverage, viewers seemed both skeptical and confused about the entire thing.
One of them wrote, “This doesn’t add up. If he was an avid supporter, why would he breach the perimeter with a shotgun and gas can?”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- He was a quiet guy…running around with a shotgun threatening to kill people…peacefully.
- he must have been suicidal or delusional.
- One can be mild mannered and mentally ill at the same time. Then the day comes when the mental illness overrides the mild manners… it’s sad that a young man would be so disturbed and unstable enough to do this.
