After a night of celebration turned into a nightmare, a community grieves and news spreads about a shocking attack on Kimber Mills, 18. Right now, the Cleveland High School student fights for her life in a hospital. The true crime incident started at a party where folks enjoyed a bonfire.
Fighting & Shots Fired
According to The US Sun, the tragedy happened when a confrontation got out of control in Alabama. The outlet noted that “Shots were fired after a fight broke out at the party.” As a result, Kimber, a senior and cheerleader at the school, suffered life-threatening injuries.

Shot in the head and leg, reports suggest she’s in a critical condition. After the terrible event, the family received the hardest news to bear. Unfortunately, the medical professionals told them that surgeries can’t save their daughter’s life.
Strong Community Support.
Sadly, it seems highly unlikely that any good outcome will happen. And, doctors expect she might only live a few days. In another article, by WBRC, the news arrived that the community turned out with a lot of support for the family. Naturally, they reached out and many folks arrived at the hospital.
Additionally, students and staff members organized a prayer vigil at Cleveland High School. At the vigil, many people held hands and the tears flowed freely. The outlet cited Principal Brannon Smith, who felt the pain of Kimber’s family. After all, he is raising a daughter who does cheerleading. Because of the sorrow and upsetting circumstances, extra counselors assist the students in coping with their trauma.
The Suspect Was Arrested
More information about the shooting incident arrived in the news media. Now, true crime followers know that Steven Tyler Whitehead, 27, ended up behind bars and won’t be in line for any bail. Allegedly, he started irritating Kimber at the party, and her friend Silas McCay, 21, went and helped her.
Protectively, McCay got hold of Whitehead by taking him down. Unfortunately, as a friend pulled McCay away, Whitehead allegedly took out his gun and started firing. McCay ended up being shot 10 times. However, he’s recovering well.
A Terrible Decision
While Whithead sits in jail, Kimber’s family made a hard decision. While waiting for official confirmation that she might be “brain dead,” they decided she will become an organ donor. Family members are speaking out, and Ashley, her sister, mentioned the terrible pain, and also thanked everyone for their support. Notably, other people were also injured during the shooting.

In the comments section, people seemed very unhappy because too often bad things happen when young people party. One person wrote:
And this is why kids shouldn’t be “partying”. Everyone was at the wrong place at the wrong time in their lives. Very unfortunate that their parents let these kids do whatever they want nowadays. Nothing good comes from parties in HS especially at “hangout spots.'”
However, others felt that seemed a bit harsh. So, another commenter penned, “Kids having a bonfire is not inappropriate. WTH do you think teens do? She was technically an adult in her last year of high school. You’re actually blaming people for an innocent bonfire instead of just acknowledging the man was crazy. Kids can have parties.”
Meanwhile, others wondered why a 27-year-old man was at a party with teens present.
