The arrest of Ashlee Buzzard seemed to take a long time, and now, the court case involving the murder of Melodee Buzzard, 9, moves at a snail’s pace. The good news is that this week, the defense was denied a motion to ditch important evidence. Read on for more details.

The Latest Hearing

KSBY News reported on May 7, that Ashlee Buzzard and her defense team turned up in court in Lompoc, California. Not much happened, but true crime followers did hear that a motion to stop the search being used as evidence in the upcoming case, was turned down.

Previously, we reported that legal defender, Erica Sutherland argued the search warrant wasn’t obtained correctly. In the latest hearing, KSBY reminded followers that the defense felt the warrant came on “a hunch” and not on facts.

Well, it was in vain, because prosecutors argued that the officers had good reason to search the premises. That related to the fact that Melodee Buzzard had been missing from school. Plus, the young age of the then-missing child was very important.

Missed Court Sessions

Its not clear when Ashlee Buzzard might reappear in court. Actually it’s been delayed several times because the suspect missed three court appearances so far.

One of them she missed in February, and another one March resulted in a no show as Ashlee Buzzard claimed she was unwell. Despite the judge getting rather irritated about it, she didn’t show up in an April 22 hearing either.

Short Recap

If you didn’t follow the case, then you might need a short recap. Ashlee was seen with her daughter, Melodee on cameras which tracked her on a long and convoluted journey through several states. It was a school teacher who reported the child missing, and by the time the search in question happened, it became obvious that something was up.

Uncooperative from the beginning, some stange stories arrived. One of them related by another person who Ashlee allegedly held against their will, involved a bizarre story that she handed Melodee over to someone she barely knew in a zoo.

Then, what followed was a flurry of packing and moving boxes. Plus, some odd behavior with missing person posters. Motives involved the possible efforts by Ashlee Buzzard’s late husband’s family to get custody of the child.

The Finding Of Melodee

Later, Melodee’s body was found by passersby and finally, her mom was arrested. The child had been shot dead. Ashlee pleaded not guilty. Some true crime followers think the defense might go with diminished responsibility, but so far, that doesn’t seem to have happened.
