Prince Harry’s Netflix Gamble — Will His New Show Silence Critics?

Prince Harry’s Netflix Gamble — Will His New Show Silence Critics?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix contract may have been reduced to a first looks deal, but it didn’t stop them from having a number of shows already lined up.

Last month we received the second season of Meghan’s cooking show, ‘With Love, Meghan,’ which sadly garnered even less positive reception than the first one.

However, the couple has two more shows coming up; a Christmas special starring Meghan, and a short film that will explore the HIV crisis in Uganda’s Masaka region.

Why Prince Harry’s Latest Project Has Echoes of Late Mom Princess Diana

While there’s been no updates on the feature adaptation of the romance book ‘Meet Me At the Lake’ that Harry and Meghan petitioned to produce for Netflix, there’s been news of other projects that the couple have lined up for the streaming giant.

Harry will possibly be taking charge of a documentary that will give viewers an indepth look into the HIV/AIDS crisis in Uganda’s Masaka region.

It’s right up Harry’s alley too, since he’s spent years of his life as the Patron of Sentebale – a charity that caters to the needs of children living with HIV/AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana. In addition to this, Harry’s mother was heavily invested in this subject during her life.

In 1987, Princess Diana opened the UK’s first purpose built HIV/AIDS unit at Middlesex Hospital in London. She’s also known to have challenged the perception of HIV/AIDS being passed through physical contact by shaking the hand of a man suffering with the illness without gloves.

It was an important historical moment that will lead to a huge global reset regarding the treatment of the disease’s sufferers.

Following Netflix’s contract renewal with the Sussexes, Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, said: “Harry and Meghan are influential voices whose stories resonate with audiences everywhere. The response to their work speaks for itself — Harry & Meghan gave viewers an intimate look into their lives and quickly became one of our most-watched documentary series.”

Bajaria added: “More recently, fans have been inspired by With Love, Meghan, with products from the new As Ever line consistently selling out in record time. We’re excited to continue our partnership with Archewell Productions and to entertain our members together.”
