Prince Harry Misrepresented This Royal Family Event, Why Palace Refused To Back Him

This June, Lilibet celebrated her fourth birthday, and to honor it, the whole family headed off to Disneyland, where they got to meet Disney’s Princess Elsa in a truly touching moment.

However, as the young Sussex carries her famous great-grandmother’s nickname, let’s revisit the controversies that arose from it those many moons ago.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Way of Honoring Late Queen “Dismayed” Her Instead

Despite distancing themselves from the Royal Family, Harry and Meghan still opted to honor the now-late Queen Elizabeth when their daughter arrived.

You see, whilst the Waleses decided to stick with the traditional name for their daughter Charlotte, whose full name is Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, the Sussexes opted for something even more personal.

That “even more personal” something turned out to be Queen Elizabeth’s nickname “Lilibet” – derived because it was the way the then-baby Elizabeth said her name.

The Queen’s reaction to this bit of news was one of dismay, with royal biographer Robert Hardman, noting that she complained: “I don’t own the palaces, I don’t own the paintings, the only thing I own is my name. And now they’ve taken that.”

However, according to new reports, it was not using the name that really upset the Queen, but that they were using it under false pretenses, having claimed they asked for her blessing to use it.

An insider told the Daily Mail: “Harry and Meghan presented this to the Queen as: ‘We’re going to call her Lilibet. Isn’t that great?’”

“The palace version was that they didn’t ask. The Queen was asked to prop up their version of events that didn’t match her own. She wasn’t furious about using the name Lilibet, it was the way it was handled.”

Sources, at the time, did suggest that whilst the call was made, Harry and Meghan didn’t give her much choice in the matter. This goes in contrast to a Sussex spokesperson, who claimed the Queen had been “supportive.”

Insiders Question Reason Behind Prince Harry’s Decision To Omit the Lilibet Scandal From His Book ‘Spare’

In early 2023, Harry shocked the world with ‘Spare’ – his “wholly truthful” memoir filled with juicy royal gossips.

However, the thing that was said to have been of remarkable interest to Palace insiders is the way Harry had chosen to omit this crucial royal development in his memoir, even though he included others of less significance.

Harry is also yet to publicly address the claims he didn’t specifically ask for the Queen’s permission to name his daughter Lilibet.
