The Netflix docuseries, Amy Bradley Is Missing, recently reignited public interest in one of ship-cruising’s most tragic mysteries. Jim Carey, a private detective who collaborated with the Bradley family for many years, believes she was forcibly abducted, that a true crime was involved, and she might still be alive.

Recapping The Disappearance

On Saturday, investigative journalist Ashleigh Banfield brought up developments in the case with Jim Carey in an interview on her YouTube channel. In his latest update as of November 2025, Jim spoke about evidence pointing toward Amy and possible trafficking.

In fact, he maintains that she is still alive. Ashleigh recapped how 23-year-old Amy disappeared from the Royal Caribbean ship Rhapsody of the Seas in March 1998. At the time, the last sighting of her was on a cabin balcony in the very early morning. Plus, there was some talk of musicians on the vessel being seen with her.

The Original Lead On Proof Of Life

While talking with Carey, Banfield said that a clerk from the Curaçao police department contacted the family in 1999. Banfield also talked about a Canadian tourist who claimed they saw her. Others have as well, and importantly, a Tasmanian Devil tattoo on her shoulder helped with the identification.

The police clerk supposedly also pointed out that the Tasmanian Devil tattoo on Amy’s shoulder. But, several people thought that if it was Amy Bradley, she might have been drugged.

The Deal That Went South

The encounter with the clerk paved the way for a possible arrangement of Amy’s homecoming. According to Carey, the clerk “then set up the return of Amy to her parents and Interpol for $50,000.” The family had the money ready but the agreement didn’t materialize.

“He didn’t want a check,” Carey recalled, explaining how they tried to tell him that it was impossible to carry that much cash on a plane. The situation escalated when there was a break-in at the hotel room of the Interpol agents.

“They got in there [and] ransacked the room looking for the money,” Carey said. “So the two guys left the following day. That’s the kind of guy we’re dealing with.”

Other Alleged Sightings

Carey alluded to the fact that not long ago he found the ex-clerk, Hermann Boileau. According to him, not only did he repeat that Amy was alive but also mentioned that she was “with a very dangerous trafficker.”

The claims, along with the alleged tourist sightings over the years, provide the foundation of the private investigator’s conviction that Amy Bradley may be found. The FBI’s investigation is still ongoing, but Carey explained they are very busy. In fact, they may have recently assigned a new agent to the cold case.

Meanwhile, the family along with their team are out there chasing every lead, crossing their fingers that the new Netflix exposure might help to bring Amy Bradley back.

Reactions From Viewers

True crime viewers also believe that Amy might be alive. In the comments section, one of them opined:

This clerk needs to be arrested for attempted human trafficking and ransom. He needs to be pressured to give up this trafficker so Amy can be recovered. With the love and treatment I am sure her family will help her with hopefully she would recover. The time is now. Come on FBI.

However, others wonder if it’s very likely. After all, Amy would be in her 50s by now. Here are a few other reactions from the discussion area:

  • I think the Clerk is lying and he just saw this story back then as a way to make money sadly.
  • What makes me angry that why didnt these people come forward back then. You can’t trust anybody these days. Predators are out there waiting.
  • I worry that the Netflix series and all this attention, they’ll kill her.
