Netflix Cuts Prince Harry From Deal, But Retains Meghan Markle?

If someone’s buying into the idea that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are Hollywood’s power couple, it’s not Netflix. According to a well-placed source in the giant streaming platform, Prince Harry is getting booted.

But Meghan can keep her pie, even if it’s a much smaller piece than the first time round.

Meghan Markle Offered “Face-saving” Deal With Netflix

It only took Archetypes for Spotify to cut their loses and run, but Netflix seems to be ready to stick it out for the long run.

And it’s not hard to see why they would do this. After all, the couple’s docuseries ‘Harry and Meghan’ did perform fantastically.

But when there’s no royal gossips to share, it would seem that the masses aren’t that particularly motivated to tune in.

Still, despite the bad reviews and not-so-brilliant ratings that plagued ‘With Love, Meghan,’ Netflix is reportedly in the process of renewing her lifetime show for the third season.

Weighing in on the matter, a source speaking to the Daily Mail’s Alison Boshoff said: “The renewal will be crucial in saving face all round, not least for Netflix. It’s like Amazon endlessly renewing Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s deal, despite her coming up with nothing.

It means that the executive who made the hire doesn’t look as if they made a mistake. I can see why it makes sense to renew for much smaller money.”

“Meghan’s not got anything to the screen as a producer – none of the scripted [films or TV shows] she talked about have come to fruition – but people are fascinated by her on a global level, and that’s not true of many people.”

Not even Ted Sarandos was ready to discredit the notion that Netflix’s continued involvement with Meghan Markle boils down to a marketing ploy. He told Alison Boshoff: “It’s good for marketing and branding. This is all expressions of fandom.”

Sarandos continued: “We’re a passive partner in Meghan’s company, and it’s a big discovery model for us right now.”

The second season of Meghan Markle’s cooking show should premiere later this year.
