The video of Meghan Markle doing the viral Baby Momma Dance has been called so many things: classless, crass, ghetto, offensive, inappropriate, unroyal-like, amongst other like words, but to Meghan Markle, it will always be an “authentic” moment.
The former senior royal appeared on Emma Grede’s podcast Aspire to talk about life after returning to social media. Along the way, she also clued us in on the reason she chose to share that particular piece of memory.
Meghan Markle Says Social Media Has Become A Place For Her To Share Her “Authentic, Fun Life”
From the video of Meghan marveling at a baby duck leading her little ones across the street to the recent clip of her twerking on the hospital floor, the Duchess has continued to share awesome tidbits of her life.
And not by mistake, in case you’re wondering. The Duchess, who returned to Instagram on January 1, 2025, sees social media as an outlet that allows her to connect with her fans. And she wants these fans to see her for who she truly is, without the prim and fabulous layers that becomes an Instagram influencer.
During her conversation with Grede, the ‘Confessions of A Female Founder’ podcast host shared her candid take on what it means to be “authentic.”
“Did you see my “Baby Momma” dance?,” she queried, adding, “That wasn’t yesterday, that was four years ago. It’s a really great reminder that with all the noise or whatever people do, there’s still a whole life – a real, authentic, fun life – that’s happening behind the scenes.”
She also shared that her return to social media has provided a great and wonderful change of pace for her. “I’m just grateful that now, being back on social as well, I have a place where I can share it on my own terms.”
Her return to social media has also felt like a milestone of some kind, because “It was a great way to get my voice back.” She further admitted that there were moments during her time with the Royal Family when she thought that her voice was being taken away from her.
At the moment, the Duchess will be embarking on this beautiful journey of growing her Instagram audience alone, since her social media manager was among the six staff members recently fired from her and Harry’s team.
