Meghan Markle – Fortune Summit Interview Backlash

Meghan Markle on Fortune Magazine - X

Meghan Markle made some announcements while speaking at the Fortune’s Most Powerful Women summit in Washington D.C. However, not everyone is impressed. Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield called the move “messy.” Read on for more details.

Recapping The Interview

On Talk TV on October 16, Schofield recapped much of the Fortune interview. First, she questioned Meghan’s invitation to the event. Actually, she attributed it to “great PR” and a “great publicist.” Furthermore, she blamed modern media. Kinsey opined that the media now prefers “clickbait” over “actual skills.”

The segment titled “Next Level Influence,” promised a discussion on building a business empire. However, Schofield claimed it delivered little substance. Instead, Kinsey noted that Meghan Markle slanted a dig at the royal family and mentioned her exit from England. According to her, the arrival stateside was a time for “nesting and healing.”

More To Pull Apart

Schofield also criticized a parenting discussion. That came after the host praised Meghan for visiting her kids. And Meghan seemingly  paused for applause. Schofield found this ridiculous. She called the entire thing an “ego trip.” And, she noted that Prince Harry’s wife globetrots all over the place, only visiting with the kids once in two weeks.

Next, Schofield referred to flip-flopping and story changes. Meghan claimed the jam business was her “passion project.” Notably, the royal commentator didn’t miss the fact that she previously said Netflix initiated the idea. Schofield noted, “That’s always fun,” referencing the way that Meghan’s “version of events” are “always changing.”

Meghan advised women to “give yourself the grace to pivot.” So, Schofield reacted with sarcasm. She joked her “insurance company” would call out the “whiplash.” Additionally, the commentator predicted a move by Meghan into makeup after her failed fashion bid.

Never A Team Player

Schofield then tackled Meghan’s team history. Meghan mentioned the Netflix crew, and she spoke about her time on Suits with 200 people. It seemed as if she feels much bigger than that now. So, Schofield compared team numbers to the royal family. She pointed out they employ over a thousand. In her opinion, “Meghan Markle was never a team player.”

Meghan also spoke about “putting care into every detail.” Oh right, yeah. Kinsey reminded viewers of an incident that seemed uncaring. After all, Harry’s wife recently recorded herself near where her mother-in-law died. And, certainly, that seemed to demonstrate a lack of care.

Just Like The Obamas?

When asked about her Netflix deal, Meghan compared herself to the Obamas. Well, Schofield described that as a distraction from a “demotion.” Additionally, she wondered where her new content was, noting so far there are “no whispers” of other projects.

Meghan also hinted her business would outlast a TV series. Clearly, the royal family commentator found that amusing, responding by saying, “She knows something we don’t.” Then, when asked about a third season, Meghan “pivoted.” She talked about a Christmas special and “micro-content.”

Feedback, Drama, & A Strange Reply

Finally, Schofield dissed Meghan’s approach to feedback. That’s because Meghan claimed she turns off Instagram comments for her fans’ sake. Interestingly, Kinsey dissed that idea as well, noting fans “live for drama.” So, she could only conclude that Meghan Markle just wants to avoid criticism in the comments.

The interview ended on a strange note. The host asked what Meghan learned as a CEO. Oddly, Meghan responded with a moan and a “Thank you.” Schofield was baffled, wondering why she would say that, believing it just implied Meghan was grateful someone believed in her “fake brand.”
