One of the first things General Hospital fans remember when they think about Chloe Lanier was her brilliant portrayal of the infamous Nelle Benson. Remember, the folks in the fictional city of Port Charles had no love for the Ms. version Of Drew Cain. Well, she’s an excellent actress, and soon, folks will see her acting in a true crime role.

The True Crime Role

Lanier stars in a movie that people can watch in January 2026. In Lifetime’s I Am Mary Jo Buttafuoco, Chloe Lanier acts as the true crime victim in the story of trauma, courage, and survival. When the crime hit the headlines, the media went crazy over it. It all went down in 1992, when Amy Fisher, dubbed the “Long Island Lolita,” shot Mary Jo Buttafuoco at her own home in Long Island, New York.

Amy was just 17 years old at the time, and she was having an affair with Mary Jo’s husband, Joey. However, Mary Jo survived and later, after she regained consciousness, she was able to identify her assailant. But, she was damaged for life with hearing loss, and paralysis on part of her face. and a bullet lodged in her head. And yes, it was really a cheating relationship, because her husband, Joey, served time for engaging in intimacy with a minor.

Chloe’s Challenging Role

Fisher went on to serve seven years behind bars. How does Chloe Lanier from General Hospital fit in? Well, according to Michael Fairman TV, the Lifetime project forms part of the Ripped From the Headlines series. While Mary Jo Buttafuoco uses her own words, Chloe will depict the real-life character. Notably, it’s not about sensationalized crime to make it attractive to wanna-be-famous for all the wrong reasons people.

The outlet cited Mary Jo as saying:

I endured extreme public scrutiny, relentless media coverage, and was often mocked and misunderstood in the public eye. What many didn’t see was the private toll it took, battling depression, suicidal thoughts, and addiction as I tried to make sense of a life that had been so violently and publicly shattered.

Many TV Shows

Over the years, the case of Mary Jo made it into thousands of interviews, documentaries, and different series. And clearly, her story hasn’t worn off the public yet.

For General Hospital fans though, the true crime role brings added interest because of Chloe Lanier’s acting in the ABC show. Interestingly, she also got involved in a so-called fictional affair.

A very Good Actress

You might recall that as Benson, Chloe drugged Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), and then framed Carly Spencer for attempted murder. Her storyline also involved the birth of a son (Wiley). Then, she made Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) think their son had died. Ultimately, she jumped off a cliff.

With that controversial role, clearly, fans who catch Lifetime’s I Am Mary Jo Buttafuoco can expect an excellent performance. If you want to watch it, it premieres on January 17.
