DOOL Spoilers: New Head Writers Tease Dramatic Changes On The Horizon

Days Of Our LivesDays of Our Lives spoilers and updates reveal fans were taken aback by the departure of head writer Ron Carlivati from the soap in July 2024.

His replacements, Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford, have been announced; however, viewers are just now witnessing the conclusion of Carlivati’s time on the show.

John Black’s Exit

Fans were heartbroken and shocked to learn of Drake Hogestyn’s passing in September 2024, following a private struggle with pancreatic cancer.

While his fellow cast members were aware of his condition, the audience remained in the dark; Hogestyn made his debut on the show in 1986, initially portraying “The Pawn.”

Over the years, his character underwent numerous transformations, evolving from the presumed deceased Roman Brady to John Black, with a complex family history.

The unique chemistry between Drake Hogestyn and Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans), was a driving force behind the beloved supercouple, John and Marlena.

Drake Worked With The Writers On John’s Exit Storyline

Prior to his tragic passing, Drake Hogestyn collaborated with the writers of DOOL to develop the storyline for John Black’s departure. In a recent extensive interview featured in TV Guide’s special triple print issue, the new head writers shared insights.

According to Parade magazine, they disclosed that they left John Black’s exit storyline open-ended, allowing for the possibility of Hogestyn’s return-nevertheless, fans can anticipate a memorable farewell. “

John had already been absent for more than nine months, and there were only so many adventures he could undertake.

Acknowledging the possibility that he might not return, while hoping he could, we aimed to create an exit that would honor John, Drake, and the audience,” the writers explained.

As The 60th Anniversary Is Ahead, John’s Exit Storyline Has Started

John Black’s concluding storyline is underway as Marlena and Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) embark on a quest to locate the missing ISA agent.

In November 2024, the show welcomed back several beloved characters to pay their respects at the funeral of Doug Williams (Bill Hayes), who sadly passed away in January 2024.

To celebrate the soap opera’s 60th anniversary, even more fan-favorite characters are set to return this November, with Salem hosting a hospital gala later in the year.

Among the notable comebacks are Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford), Jennifer Deveraux (Melissa Reeves), Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan), and Will Horton (Chandler Massey).

This week, Alison Sweeney made her return as Sami, who came back home after learning about EJ’s (Dan Feuerriegel) shooting.

Head Writers Tease A Return To The Soap’s Roots

The new head writers have teased that major changes in storylines are on the way; here’s a glimpse of what to expect.

As reported by Parade, significant developments are in store for the DiMera and Kiriakis families, with Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) and his wife Anna DiMera (Leann Hunley) returning soon.

However, the most thrilling news for long-time fans is the writers’ intention to spotlight the Horton and Brady families, as Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso reprise their roles as Bo and Hope Brady.

Given that Bo has been in a coma for several years, it will be intriguing to see how the show addresses his comeback.

Fans’ Opinions Varied In Social Media Comments

Most fans expressed their enthusiasm on social media about the new head writers, although opinions varied.

Here are some of their comments: “I’m counting down the days and hoping for improved dialogue and storytelling. Also, please, fewer flashbacks and repetitive lines.” “Let’s move away from petty storylines involving actors and avoid self-insertion as the ‘Woe is me Writer.’ No more randomly resurrecting and ruining old characters.”

“I’m excited that the Hortons are coming back, I’m cautiously optimistic-what DAYS really needs is less of the silly antics from Ron Carlivati and more serious, family-oriented storylines.”

“Everything seems very promising; I appreciate the return to the show’s roots and treating the older cast with the same respect as the younger actors.”
