There was a pretty crazy situation on an easyJet flight from Spain ahead of the weekend. Passengers traveling for their holidays claimed that the airline allowed a family to board with a dead woman. Could it be considered a true crime? Read on to find out more.

A Very Sickly Old Lady

The strange event took place in Malaga, Spain on Friday. The Mirror’s report says that the elderly woman, aged 89, appeared to be brought by five relatives in a wheelchair. Those who were close to the scene noticed immediately that something wasn’t right. For a start, she leaned over and wore a neck brace and seemed to be  show no vital signs.

The outlet cited some passengers from the flight. Petra Boddington mentioned that the ground staff asked the family five times if she was okay because she looked “completely dead” already.

Just A Tired Old Lady?

When asked, the family only replied that she was “tired” or “unwell.” It appears that the lady had been to the hospital and was probably given a “fit to fly” certificate. One person even claimed that the family claimed they were “doctors” while talking to the crew.

After some time, the aircraft began the taxiing process, but the crew became rather suspicious and noticed that the woman wasn’t breathing. Consequently, the pilot made the decision to return before the take-off was completed.

Officials Arrive

Authorities from Malaga arrived on the scene and made the official confirmation that the lady had died, which delayed the flight for almost 12 hours.

As one may expect, public outcry is huge. One more passenger, Tracy-Ann Kitching, said that a doctor on the plane gave the call that the woman had died even before they took their seats. According to her, the special assistance team is responsible for the shocking circumstances.

Did A Crime Happen?

The main issue is whether the police will get involved and a court case will follow. After all, it’s possible that a true crime happened, especially if the family knew the 89-year-old was already dead when they boarded.

Possibly, if the family staged the situation on purpose, maybe to save the expensive cost of shipping a body back, then charges of fraud or other criminal offenses might be brought against them. Not to mention health and safety issues.

Witnesses claimed that at one stage, some of the family members looked a bit “sheepish.” Nevertheless, nobody’s been arrested so far.

Meanwhile, EasyJet denies the stories by the passengers. Instead, they maintain that the woman was alive when she boarded. Other sources claimed that Spanish officials are carrying out an autopsy to gauge the exact time of death. That’s what matters, as it will either confirm a tragic death onboard the flight or a corpse was snuck aboard.

Readers React

When @thecrewlounge shared the story on Instagram, many people had a chance to comment. One of them penned, “I will never be surprised agaun (sic).”

Here are a few more responses in the discussion area:

  • If she was on a wheelchair means she had airport staff to hold her and help her, she has to pass through passport or security control. No one notice that ? ! I have So many questions …
  • Okay she must’ve died at some point that day bc rigor mortis starts within the first to third hour after death and whole body by 6-12hrs (per Google), and it would’ve been very difficult to move her body around. And they said someone kept trying to hold her head up, which means she must’ve died during the whole security or boarding process. My guess is, the family didn’t know grandma passed away…
  • I guess the company doesn’t want to accept they fail to check the old lady’s health once her family…boarded her. Now they prefer to say she was alive when she was already on the plane.
