Rising country music star Conner Smith has been formally charged in connection with a fatal collision in downtown Nashville. The incident occurred near the conclusion of the CMA Fest in early June, when the pickup truck Smith was operating struck and killed a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.
The Charges Seem Slight
This week, TMZ reported that the country music singer has been formally charged. The outlet noted that he only faces a “misdemeanor,” and not the felony that fans thought he should get. At the time of the death, they felt angry because he’d previously posted a reel on social media that showed him driving with one hand on the wheel and not concentrating on the road.

In a statement, his rep said, “Conner is incredibly grateful to the MNPD for their time and efforts to carefully investigate this tragic accident and has continued to cooperate at all times.”
Who Was Dorothy?
We reported that Dorothy, AKA Dot, was a recently retired legal professional who had made significant contributions to her field. Beyond her private practice, she established the Nashville Women Attorneys Association, demonstrating her commitment to advancing women in the legal profession. Throughout her career, she developed particular expertise in domestic relations matters, including marital dissolution and spousal support proceedings.
Dobbins left behind a grieving family that includes four beloved grandchildren with whom she shared a close bond. Personal photographs reveal cherished moments of her engaging in simple pleasures like completing puzzles with them. Her surviving family members include a daughter currently working as a healthcare professional.
Country Music Fans React
Many fans of the genre were not happy about the misdemeanor charge when the outlet shared their article on Instagram. So, many of them complained about “privilege.” One of them pointed out, “Meanwhile Karen Huger will serve a year in jail and no one was injured but her car smh must be nice.”
Here are more unhappy comments about Conner Smith:
- The privilege is privileging.
- Misdemeanor? Fatal? In the same sentence?!!
- Mannnn…talk about privilege.
- Must be nice to have that type of privilege! SMH.
- This is seriously ridiculous. The privilege is out of control.
- Famous/Rich ppl getting away with m*rder.
It wasn’t murder, and apparently, it was deemed an accident when Conner Smith failed to yield at the crossing. Still, the fact that police weren’t even considering manslaughter rubbed critics the wrong way.
Do you think it seems odd that someone lost their life because of Conner’s driving, but he only got a misdemeanor? Why the slap on the wrist? What are your thoughts on it? Let us know in the comments below, and come back here often for all your music and entertainment news and updates
