Conner Smith, Country Singer Involved In Fatal Accident

Country music singer Conner Smith was involved in a car accident that resulted in a woman’s death. The sad incident happened on Sunday, June 8, in Nashville. Smith was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

How Did The Accident Happen?

According to police, Smith struck 77-year-old “Dorothy Dobbins.” At the time, she was crossing the road in a marked crosswalk. TMZ reported that an attorney for Smith said that he “continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.” Dobbins was taken to the “Vanderbilt University Medical Center.” Unfortunately, she died there from her injuries.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department is investigating the crash. Their early findings suggest that Smith might not have yielded the right-of-way to the pedestrian. Police also said that Smith showed no signs of impairment. For now, no charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation is continuing.

Smith’s Attorney Releases Statement

The accident happened on the final day of the CMA Fest. Later, the statement from Smith’s attorney confirmed that the accident happened. In it, there were expressions of sympathy to Dobbins’ family. Meanwhile, sources close to Smith suggested that the accident was tragic. A young man will now live with a death on his conscience. They also said he was not under the influence or distracted by his phone, per People. 

Conner Smith, 24, is a Nashville native. He is signed to Big Machine Records’ Valory label and released his debut album, Smoky Mountains, last year. Smith was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the 2024 ACM Awards. He married Leah Thompson in April last year. 

Fans React To The News

When TMZ shared the story on Instagram, people were able to comment on the sad news. One of them noted, “It’s amazing how many people DONT stop for the people in the cross walk, even with flashing lights.”

However, another reader countered that by saying, “it’s just as amazing how many people just step out into moving traffic because there’s a crosswalk…”

Meanwhile, others slammed the singer because some of them saw him at CMA Fest, and he should have known lots of people would be using the streets. A critic wrote, “He knew how many people were there and still didn’t pay attention.”

Others Involved In Fatal Accidents

Young musicians have been involved in fatal accidents in the past. Caleb Kennedy comes to mind. The young American Idol singer was involved in a car crash while under the influence. Tragically, the collision led to the death of Larry Parris, who was reportedly outside his home at the time.

When the accident happened, Kennedy had allegedly been vaping marijuana. Additionally, he was on Prozac, and his attorney claimed the drugs reacted badly. Kennedy received his sentence in November last year. 

Another musician from the show didn’t kill anyone else, but Willie Spence, aged 23 in 2022, died after being seriously injured in a road accident.
