Meghan Markle Reportedly Finds It Tricky To Care For Her Altered Engagement Ring

Meghan Markle Reportedly Finds It Tricky To Care For Her Altered Engagement RingMeghan Markle is a girl who loves to sparkle, and even though her engagement ring contained most of the things that’ll make any normal person thrill and swoon, she still found it necessary to upgrade it. Odd? I guess, but it’s “her” ring, if you get what I mean.

How Meghan Markle Upgraded the Custom Engagement Ring She Received From Prince Harry

Meghan Markle will reportedly be facing “struggles” with her £120k engagement ring after doing some modifications to it to make it more… eh… sparkly.

Harry, 39, had taken it upon himself to design the pretty sparkler with the help of Cleave & Company, the late Queen Elizabeth’s regular jeweller.

Speaking on the ring’s design at the time, he said: “The ring is obviously yellow gold because that’s her favourite and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana and the little diamonds either side are from my mother’s jewellery collection, to make sure she’s with us on this crazy journey together.”

It didn’t take two years for Meghan to update it to a flashier version that thoroughly suited her fancy. What did she do? Well, for one she got rid of the thick gold band and replaced it with a much thinner, diamond-studded micro-pave gold band.

This led the editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, Ingrid Seward, to comment on the oddness of altering a ring that had been originally designed by her husband with her in mind.

“I find it a bit odd Meghan would want to alter a ring that her husband had especially designed for her,” she previously told Fabulous. “A royal engagement ring is a piece of history not a bit of jewellery to be updated when it looks old fashioned.”

Jewelry Expert Says Maintaining Precious Heirlooms Is Challenging

Ben Robert, Managing Director of Clogau – the brand responsible for the Welsh gold that the royals have used to create their wedding rings since 1923 – has known enough of high-valued jewelry to know that caring for a royal ring can be “tricky.”

“Even without any alterations, caring for an heirloom of such value comes with its own challenges,” he said, going on to point out how it needs “regular inspections, in-depth evaluations, and gentle cleaning.”

In fact the challenges are so enormous that a team of people are needed to maintain its value through the years. Is this supposed to make me feel better that I don’t own anything of value? (Haha, just kidding).
