When Does ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 20 Premiere?

ABC’s long-running, popular medical drama series Grey’s Anatomy was renewed officially for Season 20 in March 2023, and now fans await its premiere. After Season 19 wrapped up on May 18, 2023, there were a lot of loose ends that needed to be patched, and the latest season will just do that. In addition, the upcoming season will be headed by Meg Marinis, who will replace Krista Vernoff, the previous showrunner. So, when does Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 premiere on ABC? Season 20 will have all the series regulars, including Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Richard (James Pickens Jr.). They are also the only two cast members that have been with the ABC drama since the beginning of the show in 2005. Additionally, Kevin McKidd, the actor who became a part of the series in the 5th season, will also return in Season 20 as Owen. Teddy, portrayed by Kim Raver, starred in the sixth season of the show, after which she went on a 5-year hiatus only to return for the fourteenth season. Now, she will also be a part of Season 20.
Apart from these cast members, also returning to the show are Jo (Camilla Luddington) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone).

ABC – Confirmed The Show For Season 20 Even After Several Series Regulars Exited The Show In Season 19.

This slew of exits, including the show’s lead Ellen Pompeo, caused fans to believe that the show might soon be canceled. However, as opposed to the speculations, ABC renewed the show for another season.

For Season 19’s two-hour finale episode, Pompeo and Kelly McCreary returned in their respective roles to reconnect with their on-and-off lovers.

While Winston and Maggie hooked up and finally decided to stay married yet apart, Nick and Meredith talked things out, hinting at their future together living in Boston.

Whether or not Pompeo will be a part of Season 20 remains unknown. However, the actress did leave the possibility open for any cameos on the show in the future. Even after exiting the show as the lead, she still enjoys a chair on the BTS team as the show’s narrator and executive producer.

Additionally, Season 19 introduced 5 new faces adding to the storyline and hinting that the series is here to stay. These cast members, including Alexis Floyd, Midori Francis, Harry Shum Jr., Niko Terho, and Adelaide Kane, are expected to star in Season 20 as well.

Given that Season 19 only ended a few days ago, it is still early to say when the upcoming season will premiere on ABC. However, if everything works right without any unexpected delays, the show will tentatively premiere sometime in September 2023.
