Royal Family News: Kate Middleton Refuses To Sign Autograph For Child Fan

According to Page Six, the Princess of Wales declined after a child asked her to sign her autograph for him. She reportedly said, “My name’s Catherine. I’m not allowed to write my signature, it’s just one of those rules,” while also adding, “I can’t write my name but I can draw.”

Back in 2017, and before she became an official member of the royal family, Meghan Markle broke royal protocol with an old Hollywood habit during her visit to Cardiff Castle in Wales.

At the time, a lot of royal critics were surprised that no one informed Meghan of this very important rule, despite the fact that she was with her then-fiancé Prince Harry.

The couple later got married in 2018. Reports at the time said Meghan gave a 10-year-old fan her autograph, which is something the royal family is forbidden from doing.

The long-standing rule is in place because the palace is worried that someone might possibly forge a member of the royal family’s signature and that would cause nothing but problems for them.

Then again, anyone who has been paying attention isn’t surprised that the Princess of Wales didn’t sign the autograph.

If Kate is asked for an autograph, she has no choice but to politely refuse. But with that said, King Charles broke royal protocol back in 2010 by giving a young fan his autograph after the devastating Cornwall floods.

The then-Prince surprised everyone by asking his handlers to look for a piece of paper so he could sign his name for the young boy. He ended up signing it with just “Charles 2010.”

So far Buckingham Palace has not made any comments about the matter.
