General Hospital took its time recasting Drew Cain after letting Billy Miller go in 2019. When Cameron Mathison took over the role, we looked forward to it. Sure, a recast will always take some getting used to and make the character unrecognizable for a while, but it doesn’t feel like Mathison is playing Drew Cain at all.
General Hospital Spoilers – Rewrites Drew Cain’s Story
While Drew always had a sunnier disposition than his twin brother, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), he still had a brooding quality to him and he was not a happy man when he got in that elevator as Billy Miller and got on that plane to Afghanistan. He had just lost his son to cancer, Kim Nero (Tamara Braun) had essentially tried to rape him, and his best friend, Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth), was walking around with his memories.
If Drew kept on brooding when he returned to Port Charles after being locked in a prison cell by Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) for two years, we would have understood. In fact, we thought that GH was going there when Drew vowed revenge on Victor but then dropped everything to worship at the alter of Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright), now Carly Spencer.
In another life that Drew is remembering wrong, Carly dropped him as a friend like a hot potato the moment she learned he was not Jason. She was not his touchstone and not the pal he makes her out to be now.
GH Spoilers – Who Is This Man Masquerading As Drew Cain?
Since when did Drew really ever care about ELQ and since when did he remember all his times as a Navy SEAL? It’s established canon that Drew remembers nothing about his life prior to 2014 and is walking around with Jason’s memories while his own memories are back on a flash drive somewhere.
How does Drew remember his time growing up in foster homes or that he decided to change his life after high school and join the service? We sat there scratching our heads as Drew told his life story to Carly on that weird-looking Florida beach when he shouldn’t know his life story.
So, who is his smiling man with the big, bright teeth calling himself Drew Cain because we think he has to be an imposter? Stay tuned to General Hospital weekdays to see if Drew becomes Drew again in 2023.
