While the drama continues relating to Yellowstone and Kevin Costner, it seems he also has drama closer to home. After almost 20 years of marriage, Costner and his wife, Christine Baumgartner, are heading for divorce. People reports that the handbag designer filed for the dissolution of their marriage on Monday this week.

A representative for the actor said, “It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in the dissolution of marriage action.” The rep added:

We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.

How did Costner and Baumgartner meet?

The Los Angeles Times reports that Kevin and Christine met when he was getting ready for his role in his 1996 movie, Tin Cup. However, they only started dating a few years later. The couple wed in 2004 and has three children together. Reportedly, both parties are seeking joint custody of the children. Meanwhile, the Dances With Wolves actor has four other children from a previous marriage.

The sad news of the Costner split comes at a time when the actor is rumored to be leaving Yellowstone. While part 1 of season 5 has already aired, major delays are ongoing relating to part 2. Originally, the series was set to come back in the summer of 2023, but filming has yet to start on the second half of season 5. It was further reported that Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan’s “god complex” could be the root of the problem.

Earlier this year it was rumored that Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey could be replacing Costner in the role of John Dutton. However, since that time it had been confirmed that McConaughey will be starring in a new Yellowstone spin-off.

Meanwhile, Yellowstone fans do have season 2 of the Yellowstone prequel, 1923 to look forward to, starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. They are also looking ahead to the new spin-off Lawmen: Bass Reeves which added another A-lister to its cast recently in the form of Donald Sutherland.
