GH Spoilers: Marshall’s Misdiagnosis, Have The Psychiatric Drugs Caused Any Damage?

General Hospital: Marshall Ashford (Robert Gossett)General Hospital (GH) spoilers and rumors tease that since Marshall Ashford (Robert Gossett) was misdiagnosed years ago with schizophrenia and on medications, they could have caused damage. Is a malpractice or medical lawsuit ahead for Marshall, does he have any recourse?

General Hospital Spoilers – Mind-Altering Drugs For Years

Psychiatric medicines for schizophrenia alter a person’s mind, meaning since Marshall’s been on mind-altering drugs for years, his mind may be affected in negative ways.

Certainly he could have been affected and no one really knows what could be different about him had he not been on them. They could affect his body in other ways as well – causing weight gain, twitching, restlessness, and even diabetes because of side effects.

Certain kinds of medicines for schizophrenia when taken by someone who doesn’t have the disorder can even cause psychiatric symptoms. That could happen if Marshall has been described antipsychotics-he is on one used for bipolar disorder, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) recognized a bottle of pills Marshall dropped.

GH Spoilers – What Does Marshall Ashford Need To Do?

Marshall shouldn’t go off these medications without being followed closely by a doctor who can assess what they have been doing to his mind and body. Even though his geneticist said he didn’t have markers for schizophrenia, she also said that not everyone who has it does-so he should be reevaluated first.

Dr. Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) should be able to help him with that, through a series of questions which will assess how Marshall thinks and reacts. He may have to go off the medications for a period of time and then be evaluated again, but if he doesn’t have delusions, hallucinations or disordered thinking he’s probably fine.

The reason for being reevaluated after going off the medicines would be in case the medicine was controlling any symptoms that would reoccur after discontinuance.

General Hospital Spoilers – Marshall Ashford May Not Be Able To Sue

Marshall may or may not be able to sue, since the doctors who diagnosed him may not even be alive, it’s been so many years ago. However, he has been getting seen by someone who’s been writing his prescriptions more recently but on an old diagnosis doctors don’t usually recheck or reevaluate. The doctor would likely have assumed that the medications have been doing their job.

One thing is for certain-Marshall made life decisions based on a misdiagnosis that took him away from his family for many years. He cannot get back that time and no amount of money from any malpractice suit will give him what he lost-he can only cherish what he has now.
