It’s been a while, but Hulu has announced the premiere date for Futurama’s eleventh season. The much-loved sci-fi animated series will air weekly on Mondays, starting on July 24. Futurama returns to Hulu with weekly episodes
Hulu is bringing Futurama back to life on July 24. Meanwhile, this is the second time the show has been revived since its original launch in 1999. Initially, the sci-fi animation ran for four seasons on Fox. After that, reruns of the show came back as part of the Adult Swim lineup on Cartoon Network, as well as on DVD.
From there on, Futurama saw four direct-to-video films which were edited into the show’s season 5 on Comedy Central in 2008. Moreover, two more seasons aired there between 2010 and 2013, and the show is now in its eleventh season.
As a recap from previous seasons, the sci-fi animation follows Philip J. Fry, a New York City pizza delivery boy who accidentally gets frozen in 1999. Fry then gets defrosted in 3000 in a futuristic New York, where he makes friends with a hard-drinking robot named Bender. He then falls in love with a Cyclops, Leela.
Our heroes work at the Planet Express Delivery Company, founded by Fry’s descendant, Profession Hubert Farnsworth. Meanwhile, along with accountant Hermes Conrad, assistant Amy Wong and an alien lobster by the name of Dr. John Zoidberg, they have adventures in every corner of the universe.
What can fans expect?
It seems the new season of Futurama will be suitably topical, including subjects like a pandemic, vaccines, cancel culture, bitcoin and streaming TV. Meanwhile, fans’ favorite characters return on Hulu.
According to Deadline, the synopsis for season 11 of Futurama reads as follows:
New viewers will be able to pick up the series from here, while long-time fans will recognize payoffs to decades-long mysteries – including developments in the epic love story of Fry and Leela, the mysterious contents of Nibbler’s litter box, the secret history of evil Robot Santa, and the whereabouts of Kif and Amy’s tadpoles. Meanwhile there’s a whole new pandemic in town as the crew explores the future of vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture, and streaming TV.
Fans will recognize the voices of Billy West as Philip J. Fry, Katey Sagal as the cyclops Leela, John DiMaggio as the robot Bender. Meanwhile, other characters are voiced by Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, Lauren Tom, David Herman and Phil LaMarr.
The sci-fi animated series was created by Matt Groening and developed with David X Cohen. Groening and Cohen both serve as executive producers with Claudia Katz and Ken Keeper. Meanwhile, the animation comes from Rough Draft Studios, with 20th Century Television is the studio behind the show.
