Royal Family News: Princess Margaret’s Brazen Life And Times Revealed In New Bio

Princess Margaret British royal family news teases that royal expert Andrew Morton has a new book out and it examines the sometimes turbulent relationship between Queen Elizabeth and her sister, Princess Margaret,

According to excerpts from the book Elizabeth & Margaret: The Intimate World Of The Windsor Sisters, published in the Daily Mail, their bond was strong but often tested by Margaret’s wild behavior.

According to Morton, Margaret seemed to delight in embarrassing the royals with her bohemian lifestyle, including a wild love life.

Ironically she was denied permission to marry the man she loved due to his being divorced. Her sister the queen denied her permission on those grounds, and Margaret did not rebel, she went along with her decision.

Afterward she fell in with famous society photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones and together they wagged tongues with their mutually odd behavior.

According to Morton he was talented and charming, but also unpredictable and he could be biting and cruel.

Morton claims that Armstrong-Jones always addressed Margaret as ‘Ma’am’ early their relationship, but he encouraged her unconventional side.

One of her husband’s friends noted, “What he had foremost in common with Princess Margaret could be put in three words: sex, sex, sex. Theirs was a terribly physical relationship. They couldn’t keep their hands off each other, even with other people present. He was very well made and obviously that had a lot to do with it.”

Despite Margaret’s family being kept out of the loop about the relationship, once they found out they endorsed it wholeheartedly. Her mother, the Queen Mother, was said to be particularly taken by Armstrong-Jones.

So much so that she allowed the couple to use her home, Royal Lodge, Windsor, where they often went skinny-dipping at night.

The couple wed in 1960 and enjoyed a six-week honeymoon, later living in Kensington Palace. But the marriage lasted just a few years, with Morton noting that traits that had attracted the couple drove them apart. Their personalities were described as, “too alike, too selfish,”and both eventually had affairs that contributed to the end of their union.

Morton added that the public perception of Princess Margaret is of a bold socialite who partied too much, “but less well known was that she also dedicated her life to serving her sister and to upholding the values of Monarchy.”
