‘The Young and the Restless’ (YR) Poll: Does Y&R Want Michelle Stafford To Play A Villain?

Gina Tognoni’s (the exited Phyllis Summers) exit from the cast was intended on ‘The Young and the Restless’. While Y&R was pleased with the work Tognoni did since she joined the show in 2014, decision-makers decided to bring back Michelle Stafford (the returning Phyllis Summers) as part of an effort to provide familiar faces to viewers. That choice also writes back Stafford’s version of Phyllis as a clear villain, right?

Y&R Spoilers: Brining Back Michelle Stafford As Phyllis Summers Was To A Provide Familiar Face To Viewers

This issue isn’t about whether either lady is the better actor, as both are Daytime Emmy Award winners for this specific role and have solid fan contingents within Y&R’s audience. Instead, the question being asked pokes hardcore daytime fan’s astute view of their favorite soap.

Stafford’s debut happens later this month, just weeks after Tognoni was last seen as Phyllis in a small room where Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) was holding Phyllis hostage. So, not only is the original Phyllis coming back with revenge on her mind, believing, at first, that Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) was the cause of her containment, but the actor who played this role is also taking back the job that was hers originally.

Young And The Restless Spoilers: Phyllis Summers Going Back To Old Ways On Michelle Stafford  Return

Today’s media involves far more than traditional television interviews and grocery story print magazines providing previews of future storylines and information about actors to the fans as was true in the recent past. Modern times see the internet used as a means to present and leak information to daytime devotees with the partial intent of having them voluntarily use social media as a form of promotion.

The buzz about Tognoni’s leave and Stafford’s return is understandable, considering the circumstances of the switch. Y&R was arguably, if not in fact, writing Tognoni’s Phyllis back toward what Stafford’s iconic version had always been. That appears to have been done in order to ensure that the original edition of Phyllis comes back hot, in this case meaning, with intense interest in the role.

Y&R Spoilers: Gina Tognoni’s Version Of Phyllis Summers Was Softer

Tognoni’s softer version of Phyllis was useful, as it gave fans a different look at a well-known character. But the current Phyllis, who’s investigating Adam’s past in Las Vegas, Nevada, is angry and looking to avenge the many real and perceived slights she is living. Some fans may believe that makes Phyllis bad again, while others could feel sympathy for her.
