General Hospital Spoilers: Ian Buchanan Recalls Journey Towards Port Charles – Is He Staying Long Term?

In an exclusive interview with Soaps In Depth, Ian Buchanan revealed that he never imagined he’d be part of the cast of “General Hospital” as Duke Lavery 33 years ago. The actor lived in a little town in Hamilton, Scotland.

During his younger years, he was excited to get to Glasgow and when he finally did, he decided to go to London. He recalled how he kept on looking to the next place to be but he never thought his travels will take him on TV in America.

“How would I? I wouldn’t even know what that was!” he said.

Buchanan revealed that his first international stop was in Madrid, Spain. What was supposed to be a vacation turned into a job opportunity. He started his modelling career, which introduced him to the world.

“For four years, I was in New York and Europe for summers and Japan for winters, and I loved Tokyo, New York, London, Paris, and Milan,” he said.

He considered that time an interesting part of his life. He eventually settled in New York where he took up acting classes. In 1986, he got a role on a soap that’s filming its scenes in Hollywood.

GH News – Pairing Up With Finola Hughes

When he was paired with Finola Hughes, who played Anna on “General Hospital,” the viewers viewers loved their chemistry right away. But he said, he never figured out why.

“Finola and I just did our work, had a great time and were happy to be around each other,” he recalled. “We got to do some lovely things, and the writing was always great.”

Even after he left the show, Buchanan revealed that he’s developed a tight bond with Hughes. They both enjoy each other’s company. They share this special connection and even after all this time, they support and trust each other. She even let her son stay with him when he was doing his internship.

Looking back he remembered Hughes say, ‘Who’da thought 33 years ago, I’d be dropping off an 18-year-old for you to take care of for two weeks?’

It’s not only with Hughes. Buchanan said, “I had that with Susan Flannery (ex-Stephanie, B&B) and Rebecca Budig (GH’s Hayden; ex-Greenlee, AMC) over the years. We’re all best buds. Plus, they have children. I love that part of their lives. It’s great fun.”

Viewers may recall that the actor also joined the cast of “The Bold and the Beautiful” as Dr. James Warwick, “All My Children” as Dr. Greg Madden, and “Days of Our Lives” as Ian McAllister.
