The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Summer Right About Phyllis, But Not Billy

The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Summer Right About Phyllis, But Not Billy Say what one will about Summer (Hunter King) on ‘The Young and the Restless’, but she was totally right about Phyllis (Gina Tognoni). As daughter and mother bond, it must be said that Summer’s feeling that her mother should not be with Billy (Jason Thompson), but should be with Jack (Peter Bergman), was absolutely right.

A much quicker than expected scene plays out as Phyllis and Summer basically forgive each other and tag Billy as the cad. Even the oaf himself admits as much to Cane (Daniel Goddard), while the step-brothers drown their latest sorrows at the Genoa City Athletic Club bar.

‘Philly’ was and remains detested by those fans who have long felt that Billy belongs with Vickie (Amelia Heinle). Yes, it’s fair to cite the multiple failures ‘Villy’ has endured, along with connected dramatics. But they have children together and surely seem to be each other’s true love.

Who knows, maybe the full wreck Billy has made of his personal life will result in another turn back to Vickie? But let’s stick with the Summer point for now.

King’s character was written back into the show as the season of the year that bears her character’s name took hold. Summer was purposely transformed into a brash brat who hasn’t been shy about becoming totally self-involved.

Summer’s ginormous ego understandably blinded Genoa City residents to the truth she spoke upon her return. She didn’t initially target Billy romantically, but did tell Phyllis that Billy wasn’t a good match.

Y&R invested more than two years in creating ‘Philly’, developing two characters who were never going to get together in the distant, soapy past. Hardcore fan’s feelings about the Michelle Stafford and Billy Miller eras surely influenced what they thought of Tognoni and Thompson in modern times.

Summer’s realized advice feels like an acknowledgment to many fans that they were right. Whether the ‘Philly’ arc served to produce some useful storyline moments is debatable. Suffice it to say, Tognoni and Thompson’s combined efforts were solid. And now, King’s performances are also shining as Y&R is allowing Summer to be more vulnerable.
