The Young and the Restless (YR) Poll: What Punishment Does Lily Deserve?

The Young and the Restless (YR) Poll: What Punishment Does Lily Deserve?Lily (Christel Khalil) faces her sentencing hearing this week on ‘The Young and the Restless’. It seems likely that she’ll be sent to prison for an extended period of time because of the car accident that caused the loss of ‘Hevon’s’ unborn child and then Hilary’s (Mishael Morgan) death. But will that expected punishment be justifiable?

The personal history between Lily and Hilary was not good. Mrs. Ashby’s initial take on Hilary was fair because of what Neil (Kristoff St. John) and Cane (Daniel Goddard) endured.

Ann Turner (Hilary’s real name) arrived in Genoa City in 2013. At that time she believed Neil allowed her mother to die. The story Hilary pieced together involved Neil and her mom drinking far too much. Neil supposedly then left her mother to die of alcohol poisoning.

Along with the above, Hilary tried to frame Cane with faux photographs for a separate matter. Mr. Ashby outwitted her and Hilary’s extended revenge plan against the Winters’ family failed.

Neil’s innocence was later proven and he forgave his accuser. St. John’s and Morgan’s characters then fell in love and got married. Hilary and Devon (Bryton James) later developed romantic feelings for each other and became involved while Neil was suffering from temporary blindness. ‘Nilary’ ended, badly, and ‘Hevon’ soon entered their first marriage.

Considering what happened, it was natural that Lily and Hilary never got along. That back story could allow a sentencing judge to believe that Lily intentionally ran the red light that resulted in two deaths. If that’s believed, then Mrs. Ashby could receive twenty, or more years behind bars.

Y&R fans know that Lily did not intentionally commit a crime. She allowed herself to be distracted, by Hilary, while searching for Shauna (Camryn Hamm) and did not see the street light at all. A truck smashed the passenger’s side door of Lily’s car, where Hilary was sitting. Thankfully, Charlie (Noah Alexander Gerry) was safe in the back and Lily also wasn’t injured. Apparently, the truck driver was okay as well.

A common sense legal punishment would see Lily lose her driver’s license for an extended period of time. An extensive safe driver’s course could be imposed. Community service could also be performed.

Possibly a short time in prison might be necessary, according to Wisconsin law. But an extended prison sentence? Come on!
