In Memoriam of Frank Parker and Peggy McCay – Days of Our Lives, Shawn And Caroline Brady

In Memoriam of Frank Parker and Peggy McCay – Days of Our Lives, Shawn And Caroline BradyIn the past month, Days of Our Lives (DOOL) Pop and Mom Brady have both past away. Here is a look back at their acting career.

Frank Parker’s Best Known Role Was Grandpa Brady

Frank began playing Shawn Brady in 1983 and left in 2008. Frank was like Shawn in some ways. Frank was a people person, and this aspect of his personality fit in perfectly with the role of the Brady Pub owner. Before landing his role as the patriarch of the Brady Clan, Frank had two smaller daytime roles. Frank played Paddy Kelly on General Hospital and held an unnamed role on The Young and The Restless. However, Frank’s role as Shawn Brady was his longest and probably best-remembered role.

Fellow Actors Show Their Respect

Several DOOL actors have paid their respects to Frank, one of the most touching being from Peter Reckell who played Bo Brady, Caroline’s illegitimate son with Victor Kiriakis.

“I always looked forward to working with Frank, I knew it would be an emotional, powerful, exhilarating day, That’s why I got into acting in the first place. He wore his heart on his sleeve; my heart hurts as I write these words. Miss you Pop.”

Charles Shaughnessy, who played Shawn’s son in law, Shane Donovan tweeted

“God’s Speed, sweet Frank. As your soul makes its way to a better place, may the wind be always at your back and may the road come up to meet you! #FrankParker #RIP”.

Peggy McCay As Caroline Brady

Peggy McCay passed away Sunday, October 8 at age 90. Peggy had an extensive acting career appearing on shows such as “The Andy Griffith Show,” “General Hospital,” “Lou Grant,” and “Gunsmoke.” Peggy won a Primetime Emmy for her role in “The Trials Of Rosie O’Neill” in 1991. Peggy role as Caroline Brady was her longest lasting TV role; she held the role for 35 years.

Fellow Days star, Deidre Hall announced McCay’s death on her Facebook page. “Our dearest Peggy McCay has left us. She was a friend, an activist, and a real scrapper!!

I remember meeting her at the bedside of a dear, very ill friend. I backed her up as she ferociously took on doctors and nurses to make sure he had the very best care. She fought that hard for all her causes. Passionate and tireless. And how she loved being “Caroline”!! Days of our Lives.”

Stephen Nichols (Steve Johnson) may no longer be on Days of Our Lives but left heartfelt messages to both his onscreen inlaw portrayers; this is what he had to say about Peggy’s passing.

“Well Peggy, this is unexpected. The last time I saw you, you talked about how eager you were to get back to work. You said it with such conviction and longing. Don’t worry; you gave the world plenty. Gave your audiences inspired performances and your fellow actors your strength and inspiration and absolute love of the work. I will miss you sweet, Peggy. I am so grateful for the time I had with you. Sending love to your loved ones. Rest In Peace. #days #mamabradyforever.”

Although Peggy has been offscreen on Days of Our Lives for some time, her costars still love and respect her. Peggy will always be Our Ma Brady.
