General Hospital Genie Francis' Agent Reveals She Wanted To Stay As A Series Regular

New reports indicate that General Hospital star Genie Francis was quite surprised by the show’s frontrunners and their decision to demote her. As a matter of fact, Genie’s agent has recently revealed that it wasn’t her decision to leave the show after having spent the last several decades playing her iconic character, Laura Spencer.

According to reports, Genie was hoping to continue playing Laura for as long as she possibly could. But that’s no longer the case. Producers have decided to drop her from her full-time contract to a smaller, recurring role instead.

Her agent Arthur Toretzky recent told Entertainment Weekly that General Hospital declined to extend her contract but has left the door open for a possible return for the future.

He told the publication, “She did not want to leave the show as a series regular. It was not her choice to leave. Francis will only make her way back to Port Charles if the story and the timing were ideal.”

So far Genie herself has not made any comments about the controversy although it’s without a doubt that her fans will miss seeing her on the small screen. Her character was supposed to run for mayor of Port Charles but will be forced to withdraw her candidacy. Instead, she’ll be moving to France along with Spencer. So far General Hospital spoilers have not indicated when Genie’s last episode will air.
