The ratings are in for the week of January 9 – 13 and they aren’t good. All four daytime dramas lost viewers in overall numbers. However, there is some good news. Three of the four shows did make gains in the highly coveted 18 – 34 female demographic. Young and the Restless (Y&R), Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) and Days of Our Lives (DOOL) increased viewership within this group. General Hospital (GH) lost viewers in every category.
The Young and the Restless
The Young and the Restless averaged 4,686,000 viewers and was number one for the week but had 298,000 less viewers than the week before. The showed gained 12,000 women in the 18-34 age group. It would seem these viewers were investing in the resolution of the Dylan McAvoy (Steve Burton) storyline.
The Bold and the Beautiful
Second overall with 3,783,000 viewers, the show lost 290,000 viewers from the previous week. The Bold and the Beautiful did increased by 37,000 women in the 18-34 demographic. It would seem this group is responding to the Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood)/Liam (Scott Clifton) and Ridge (Thorsten Kaye)/Quinn (Rena Sofer) storylines.
General Hospital
With over 1,000,000 less viewers, General Hospital was in third place with 2,653,000 viewers on average. This number is down by 165,000 from last week. It was the only drama to demonstration no gain with the 18-34 female demographic. Are viewers losing patience waiting for the truth to be relieved with Nellie (Chloe Lanier)/Sonny (Maurice Bernard)/Carly (Laura Wright)? Can Olivia Jerome’s (Tonja Walker) return bring back viewers?
Days of Our Lives
Days Of Our Lives landed in last place yet again with just 2,351,000 viewers overall. The show had 40,000 fewer viewers from the week before and 440,000 from the same time last year. While these numbers aren’t great news for the show, DOOL made the biggest gains with female viewers in the 18-49 demographic. While rumors have swirled that Days of Our Lives is on the chopping block, recent news that Megyn Kelly will take over the third hour of The Today show from Al Roker and Tamron Hall should help ease fans worries. Now there is no need to cancel DOOL to make room for Megyn.

I can tell you #GH viewers are sick of long dragged out storylines and numerous characters getting airtime almost everyday while many other great actors are given nearly no scenes at all which is disgusting, rude & insulting to both the actors & the fans! I’ve seen Sonny,Carly,Liz,Franco,Anna,Valentin,Nina,Alexis,Julian,LuLu,Sam & Jason on almost everyday or every other day while Laura,Kevin played by the super talented Genie Francis & Jon Lindstrom get nothing but a few crumps when the fans keep begging for more scenes of them together & giving them their own storyline. Genie was promised a storyline but this is ridiculous. Why are these actors being used, their chemistry is off the charts?! Bring Denise Alexander back as Laura’s mother & Nicholas as Laura’s son. Stop using Kevin & Laura as props for Liz & LuLu all the time it’s sickening and why is it any of the few scenes they have their cut short before the scene has actually played all the way through? Something underhanded is going on here when two of you best actors are thrown under the bus while newbies such as Nell get to be front & center in major storylines which is not the least bit fair and most fans can’t stand her! Also Tracy should get a lot more airtime, loved seeing her educate Laura on wearing the fur naked to Kevins, Laura can learn a thing or two from Tracy! Wake up @generalhospital & give fans a lot more of Kevin, Laura, Tracy & Bobbie their 4 of the most entertaining people on your show. If something doesn’t change quick I’m through with #GH as like me as a fan I’m not listened to at al & it’s just not expectable anymore!
Absolutely!!! I may be imagining things but didn’t soaps manage to have numerous stories run at once and not make them so damn complicated, instead of two really stupid stories that use all the new characters and are so convoluted that it is ridiculous!
