‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Sharon Plays Bad Girl Again – Where Is New Direction?

'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers: Sharon Plays Bad Girl Again – Where Is New Direction?Wait, wasn’t Sharon (Sharon Case) supposed to be transformed on ‘The Young and the Restless’? Maybe that’s just been wishful thinking all along, instead of recognition of a real plan. So she was just shown acting impulsively, breaking the law, or at least the rules and blowing Dylan’s (Steve Burton) cover. Sharon and the fans deserve better.

Luther Fisk (Scott Speiser) asked Alex (Jess Webb) details about her interactions with Derek (Dylan’s undercover alias) after dealing with an apparent snitch, who later appeared to be shot. The drug dealer was suspicious after learning that a woman, who was Sharon, called Derek’s phone. Luther believed that a man was Derek’s boss, but Dylan responded with a quick cover story.

Dylan had a briefcase full of money. He was ready to exchange that for the drugs he was claiming to want. Alex’s count revealed a five percent premium had been included on top of the purchase price. The extra coin was explained as incentive to create a lasting business relationship.

After pushing for details of when and where the product shipment would be received, Luther appeared to relent. However, the pier information he provided seemed too conveniently offered. Then Speiser’s character instructed one of his muscle men to take Derek to the apparent pickup location.

An episode-ending shot showed Dylan realizing that he wasn’t being taken to wherever the drug shipment was located. Instead, Luther’s enforcer was likely driving him to his demise.

It’s not plausible to believe that a detective’s wife would be able to enter the chief of police’s office unattended. It’s equally unlikely that she would then be left alone and swiftly locate a phone that, for some reason, had Dylan’s burner phone number stored in its memory. But each of those plot points moved from the writer’s room to the Genoa City set and sure enough, Case’s character played to type once again.

The change in Y&R’s backstage regime affords an opportunity to do many things, including writing Sharon back to being a normal human being. Enough with the erratic behavior that often seems to end in some dramatic tragedy. Mal Young, Sally Sussman and Kay Alden know that it’s time to do better.
