General Hospital’s Maurice Benard Stars In Hot New Movie

General Hospital's Maurice Benard Stars In Hot New MovieActors love to flex their acting muscles and no one does it better than General Hospital’s Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos). His latest extracurricular project is “A Lover Betrayed,” an original Lifetime Movie that debuts September 9 at 8 p.m. EST.

In his latest project Benard plays a straight-laced detective, quite a change-up from his long-running role as Port Charles’ Original Gangster.

Fans shouldn’t expect to recognize any semblance of Sonny Corinthos in Benard’s latest television role, as he told Soaps in Depth that he took the part, “because I wanted to do something different.”

Benard was in good company while filming, “A Lover Betrayed,” as the movie also features a couple of other stellar soap alums. Jamie Luna (ex Liza) from the now defunct All My Children and Jason Brooks (ex Peter) from Days of Our Lives, can also be seen in the Lifetime offering.

Benard has been one busy man lately, having recently participated in ABC Channel 7’s Day of Giving telethon in Los Angeles. The event was organized to raise money for victims of Hurricane Harvey which devastated Texas, killing dozens and leaving thousands of people homeless.

Some of GH’s best and brightest rolled up their sleeves and answered phones alongside Benard, and you can see some of the pictures from that day on his Twitter. Ryan Paevey (Nathan), Kirsten Storms, (Maxie), Lisa LoCicero (Olivia), and Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) are just a few of the generous GH stars who took the time to pitch in and help out on the relief efforts.

You can also catch Benard in, “Joy” starring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert DeNiro and currently in theaters.

And if you haven’t caught his movie, “The Ghost and The Whale,” now’s the time to do so! It tells the mysterious story of Joseph Hawthorne, a bi-polar man played by Benard, who goes off to sea with his wife Annabel Lee (Madeleine Hamer) but returns to port alone.
