Former Producer Slams Eastenders, Says Show ‘Has Gone Wrong Way’

Former Producer Slams Eastenders, Says Show ‘Has Gone Wrong Way’One former Eastenders producer is speaking out about the show’s controversial story and plotlines. In fact, former exec Diederick Santer admits that the show has been less than stellar these last few months and that he has “not found it massively watchable.”

Speaking to The Guardian, Diederick said that the show has had a rather slow pace and that the storylines are focusing more on the teenagers than the adults. What’s more, a lot of fans have been left upset over the death of two longstanding and popular characters: Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell. And according to Diederick, the entire tone of the show has turned more cynical than anything else.

He said, “It’s about balance. It always has to walk a line and this is where I think it has gone the wrong way lately. It has to walk the line between social realism and stuff that is exciting, stuff that grips you and makes you gasp – and you have to tune tomorrow to see it. You don’t want to see it on iPlayer; you want to see it live. Maybe that is what it has lacked just lately, finding a sort of a universality and a scale in those everyday stories.”

In fact, Diederick Santer isn’t the only one who feels this way. Former Eastenders star Danny-Boy Hatchard recently said that he too doesn’t like the direction the show is going in, especially with Danny Dyer’s storyline. Linda was recently left devastated when she found out that Mick was cheating on her with his daughter-in-law, Whitney Carter.
