Woody Woodward (Lee Ryan) is The Queen Vic’s handsome new barkeep, and he’s brought a breath of fresh air into the gloomy pub.

He’s a looker and it doesn’t hurt his standing with his employers that he’s managed to bring in a few bucks since arrival.

Apparently he’s also an excellent listener because when Shirley (Linda Henry) finds herself unable to make a difficult (as in life and death!) decision, she turns to the newbie barkeep.

Shirley reveals that the family is so broke the only way they can pay for lifesaving surgery for the beloved family dog, Lady Di, is to allow someone else to buy and hold the freehold of the bar.

The only problem is that the buyer is Max Branning; the ex-con with a chip on his shoulder, who’s out to take down half the town for their roles in his false imprisonment. It would be akin to making a deal with the devil. But what other choice does she have?

Woody tells Shirley that saving Lady Di is the only way to go. But is that because he’s an animal lover, or because he’s secretly in cahoots with Mad Max?
