Corrie spoilers confirm that Coronation Street is getting a new cast member, one we first heard about just a few weeks back. Disability campaigner Melissa Johns is indeed joining the illustrious ITV soap, although her role is currently clouded in mystery!
The beautiful blonde herself confirmed the rumor, after photos showed her filming opposite cast members including Mikey North (Gary Windass) and Faye Brookes (Kate Connor) at a nightclub.
Although we don’t yet know the character’s name or the length of time she’ll be on the show, Johns did spill a few enticing deets about her upcoming appearance.
In an interview with Gloucester Live, Melissa enthused about the warm welcome and support she received from the other cast members.
Melissa, who was born with one arm, is a staunch disability rights campaigner. Now that she will be seen on the super popular program, she no doubt will continue to raise awareness, albeit on a much larger scale.
“The … cast have been amazing – really sweet. If they see me struggling to do anything like doing my shoes up, they think nothing of getting down on their knees to help me,” she said.
In particular she singled out Connor McIntyre (Pat Phelan) as being a VIP for her. She said that the veteran actor, “has been my rock from day one. He is one of the nicest people I’ve met in my life.” Aw!

“Coronation Street, which goes into people’s living rooms practically every night, has an opportunity to change the way society views things like race, relationships and disability,” she continued.
Johns went on to say that since her introduction to the long-running show, she has been asked by a disability charity if she would like to be their ambassador.
Johns admitted that “growing up I had some very dark moments when I did not like what I looked like at all and this will give me a platform to be an advocate for other people.”
