Coronation Street Spoilers: Mel Maguire Killed In Failed Bethany Murder Plot – Actress Sonia Ibrahim Confirms Exit

Coronation Street Spoilers: Mel Maguire Killed In Failed Bethany Murder Plot - Actress Sonia Ibrahim Confirms ExitSonia Ibrahim, the actress who plays Mel Maguire on the popular Coronation Street, is leaving the show for good. In a Game of Thrones twist, the poor, miserable Mel will be killed off after trying to murder Bethany Platt. Beth (may I call her Beth?) tries to get Mel to stand up in court against Nathan Curtis, but it all goes sideways and things take a turn for the very, very dark. Mel, still desperately pining away after Nathan, tries to stop Bethany from taking him to court. This leads to a standoff between the two women and murder ensues.

Speaking to Mirror UK, Ibrahim recounts her time on the show. “It’s been an amazing time, it’s been great to work here. The opportunity I’ve had is amazing and it’s just a massive family and everyone’s so welcoming and it’s so nice to work with such great people.” About the storyline, she said the following, “Mel is capable of doing anything. Whatever Nathan wants, Mel will do it and Nathan doesn’t want Bethany to get to court. We know how brainwashed she is with Nathan. The police need evidence, there’s only so much I can prove and Laura’s too messed up to help so that’s my word against Nathan, Neil’s and Ian’s.”

There’s a crowbar, a mad woman, and blood.

It makes for a great surprise exit. Since Coronation Street is much more believable than, say, Days of Our Lives, it’s quite shocking to see a character get offed on the show. But hey, what we do for love is intoxicatingly bad. And Mel does it for love. Perhaps she could have followed a different route – blackmail, anyone? But no, Mel decided to take the plunge and murder Bethany. A failed murder plot is like going to a Starbucks and ordering water – it never works out, plus you don’t get your misspelled name splattered across the cup. The only thing they’re spilling on Coronation Street is blood. And death. And the end of Mel.

Will Mel’s death affect the narrative arc? Will there be disastrous consequences for all involved? It’s hard to say, because a death on a soap can be milked for kingdom come (read: Marlena). Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
