First father, then son. Yes, Adam Newman (Justin Hartley) will be joining Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) behind the bars of Walworth’s State Prison. The founder of Newman Enterprises was rightly convicted and began serving his 10-year sentence in recent months. Despite the fact that he framed his offspring for the murder of Constance Bingham (Sally Kellerman), it’s likely that he’ll bond with Adam in the can because this is ‘The Young and the Restless’.
In what now seems like a lifetime ago, Victor initially developed a normal relationship with Adam on Hope’s (Signy Coleman) farm in Kansas. Of course, Victor Adam Newman, Jr. was just a boy at that time. Soccer games and smiles in a homespun kitchen telegraphed the possibility of a positive lifelong connection. However, intentional drama is necessary within this genre and so a different fate for these namesakes was invented.
Fast-forward to modern times: Victor worked with Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) to concoct a scenario whereby Adam poisoned Constance, thereby causing her death. Said scheme was intended to put pressure on Victor, Jr. to return to the family business. However, Chloe intentionally disrupted Victor’s plans when she chose to withhold the real pages of Sage’s (Kelly Sullivan) diary, thereby keeping Adam in the guilty column in the eyes of the Paul (Doug Davidson).
After initially rejecting his father’s latest manipulative offer, Adam agreed to work for his dad, again. When Victor wasn’t able to clear his son’s name, due to Chloe’s unexpected interference, Adam naturally believed that Victor was playing games. He also realized that his freedom was in jeopardy, yet again.

Many characters have pointed out that Victor and Adam share a similar personality type. Each man employs creative morality when necessary and sees much of life as negotiable. That’s why it’s reasonable to believe that the imprisoned duo will reach a truce within Walworth’s walls.
During the first few months of his stay, Victor received an unimaginable number of visitors, developed a romantic relationship with prison doctor Meredith Gates (Alicia Coppola), was involved in numerous fracases with Ian Ward (Ray Wise) apparently used Luca (Miles Gaston Villanueva) to sabotage an out-of-town position Adam obtained, and, as noted, arranged a frame. There’s no telling what these two Newman men will be able to accomplish once they reach an accord. This is soap. So, maybe one will neutralize the Warden, while the other organizes a prison riot.
