‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Paul Must Investigate Phyllis’ Fall – Jack Looks Guilty

Paul (Doug Davidson) has another messy investigation to handle on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Phyllis’ (Gina Tognoni) fall down the stairs in her current home would likely have been seen as an accident under normal circumstances. However, Jack’s (Peter Bergman) public attacks against his wife and brother just prior to this incident complicates matters.

In addition to the above, there’s the issue of Billy (Jason Thompson) being a witness. For whatever reason, he happened by his family’s home immediately after Phyllis tumbled. To him it appeared as though Jack intentionally caused the crisis. And, as viewers know, this Abbott brother jumps head-first into conclusions and often pulls others along for the ride.

Being chief of police in this particular town is a deeply vexing proposition. Paul recently had to tell his son, Dylan (Steve Burton), to halt an investigation into a case where a father apparently framed his son for murder and then purportedly helping that same convict to escape. Yes, the Newman family is just as dysfunctional, if not more so, than the Abbott’s.

The gossipy nature of modern society has been fueled by the rise of social media. That digitally based form of communication has enabled mental impulses to damage lives through the constant motion of two grubby thumbs pounding on countless smart machine screens across the globe. That fictional reality caused Jack’s humiliation to trend among the masses and now for his world to be covered a frightening malaise.

Any criminal investigation of prominent Genoa City personalities is fraught with risk. People who are paid to create new forms of morality, otherwise known as lawyers, quickly enter the frame. Ever-willing to question common sense and those who try to maintain order, Michael (Christian LeBlanc), Leslie (Angell Conwell) and the rest jab at whatever District Attorney Christine (Lauralee Bell) offers.

So, just when viewers were looking at ‘Phack’s’ survival, Y&R flipped the script in an unexpected way. Naive, no longer Smilin’ Jack is under suspicion. Will one of Wisconsin’s seeming good guys actually end up in jail?
