Mariah (Camryn Grimes) arrived on ‘The Young and the Restless’ with her hard shell firmly intact. Then, after she accepted Sharon (Sharon Case) as her mother, came to care about Faith (Alyvia Alyn Lind) and blended into a wider family, Kevin (Greg Rikaart) became a brief boyfriend option. While ‘Keriah’ didn’t initially work out, current circumstances are enabling Mariah to have a second chance at love.

Kevin believes that he wants to get back together with Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson). But, Chloe links the painful memories of Delia’s (Sophie Pollono) death with her past marriage to Kevin. So, ‘Khloe’ seems unlikely to reunite in the near future, or possibly ever, on ‘The Young and the Restless’.
Per his request, Mariah played the good friend by pumping up Kevin to Chloe. When Chloe rejected that push, Mariah felt compelled to tell Kevin that his ex-wife doesn’t care about him in the way that he thinks he wants. At some point, he’ll accept facts over his personal feelings and admit that it’s past time to move on, as he seems to have done from Natalie (Mara McCaffray), which should bring this storyline back to Mariah.
Often times people who project toughness have been legitimately hurt, or feel as though they’ve been damaged by unjust circumstances. Mariah clearly didn’t deserve to be taken from Sharon when she was born. That tragedy robbed her of knowing her twin, Cassie (also played by Camryn Grimes) and of living in a real family. Mariah’s childhood was influenced by Ian Ward (Ray Wise), who’s a hardened criminal. Those clear facts underscore Mariah’s understandably cautious nature and her common bond with Kevin, who also has a heart-wrenching personal backstory on ‘The Young and the Restless’.

Mariah now appears open to taking a variety of people’s advice in pursuing a ‘Keriah’ reunion. While those characters briefly attempted to create a romantic relationship, maturity and positioning now offers these two poor souls another chance to be together. Only Y&R’s writers know if they’ll take it.
