‘The Young and the Restless’ News: Michael Muhney Responds to Fan Petition – Y&R Return Pitched To Sally Sussman

'The Young and the Restless' News: Michael Muhney Responds to Fan Petition – Y&R Return Pitched To Sally SussmanMichael Muhney was Adam Newman on ‘The Young and the Restless’ until 2014. Former executive producer Jill Farren Phelps removed him from the cast three years ago this month just prior to Christmas, which set off an ongoing explosion among his devoted fans. An online fan petition has been created that is aimed at new head writer Sally Sussman, to which Muhney has responded.

Speaking via his Twitter account Muhney said, “I just read through all the comments in this petition. Brought tears to my eyes. So blown away by people’s passion for my work. #Humbling”

A few tweets later he directly addressed the factual issue that is believed to have caused his termination, his on-set intensity level, “I’ve been on a journey for several years. Moved away from the me that fought too many battles and covered up insecurities with ego. I just know that I like myself a lot more now than I did years ago. Had to let go of the hard-headedness. It’s a good feeling to let it go.”

Muhney ranked among the most electric stars in daytime during his run on the show from 2009-2014. Unconfirmed rumors that pinned his unexpected departure to an incident involving another cast member appeared to be fully refuted by reality as time passed.

The actor’s rehire discussions with Y&R in mid-2014 also seemed to confirm that he was eligible for rehire and remains so. Unless facts are presented in the future that contradicts this belief, Muhney, like any American, will retain the presumption of innocence among all balanced minds.

Sussman advised in a recent interview that preceded her debut episode on December 7, that she wasn’t looking to bring the Adam character back. She believes there isn’t a compelling reason for Nick (Joshua Morrow) to know the truth about Christian’s (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) paternity.

Fan efforts to pitch Muhney’s return to the Y&R cast have remained among the most buzzworthy soap stories on social media. Rarely has such passion been sustained among a viewing contingent that is known to be fiercely loyal. So this petition and any other similar efforts deserve to be followed.

Y&R’s advertising rates are set by it’s average daily number of viewers. Sussman’s employer could be influenced if this cause remains a movement that’s too large to overlook. Yes, the internet does enable fan power to be felt.
