‘General Hospital’ News: Maurice Benard Teases New Role – Working On Acting Projects On The Side

Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard, General Hospital) is moonlighting as an officer of the law? In what universe?! Simmer down GH fans, Sonny’s portrayer, Daytime Emmy winner Maurice Benard, is taking on a new acting role, but it’s one you’ll be able to watch in this cosmos.

If you follow Benard on social media, you know that he’s been teasing fans with shots of a set that isn’t from the soap General Hospital. In one picture he used the caption, “Hi, my name is Detective Alvarez. Can I see your driver’s license, please?”

So far Benard is staying mum on this project, and he hasn’t offered any specifics on what fans can expect from him in regard to this venture.

What we do know for certain is that Benard has a part in the upcoming pilot, “South Side: The Series.” Whether his social media teases are from the set of, “South Side: The Series” remains to be seen. In any event, kudos to Benard for stoking the public’s interest in his extracurricular activities!

Loyal GH fans will want to catch the pilot for, “South Side: The Series” and not just because Benard’s in it. The intriguing show stars Ice-T and Method Man, and takes an in-depth look at the New York drug scene in the 80’s. Hmm, that sounds a little like Port Charles back in the day when Sonny was a young thug!

As if shooting a pilot weren’t enough to keep Benard busy, he’s also got a role in the indie film, “Hold On.” Word is that Benard plays a music industry professional in the yet-to-be-released movie.

Let’s hope that with all his success away from the set of General Hospital, Benard stays true to his soap opera roots. Can you imagine Port Chuck without the presence of inimitable mobster Sonny Corinthos? I sure can’t!
