‘Days of Our Lives’ News: NBC Pushing Days to Drastically Change DOOL Shooting Schedule

'Days of Our Lives' News: NBC Pushing Days to Drastically Change DOOL Shooting Schedule“Days of Our Lives” (DOOL) is reportedly struggling to stay afloat as Sony is playing hardball in the contract negotiations that will determine whether “DOOL” is renewed or canceled. One of the issues reportedly in dispute is DOOL’s aggressive and non-traditional shooting schedule.

Daytime Confidential quotes as an NBC insider as saying that NBC execs “want the show to go back to taping closer to air.” The change was made a few years ago where Days began to be shot five or more months ahead of time in order to save money.

But that’s problematic because if a plotline isn’t working, if there are casting issues, or fans are turned off by a particular storyline, there is no opportunity for the network to change direction because the episodes are locked down so far ahead of time.

It’s ironic that the shift in shooting schedules designed to pare down the budget and keep DOOL on the air is now a bone of contention in renewal talks. For now, we know that Sony has told showrunners to stop writing and that there is enough material in the can to run through September 2016.

But with DOOL ratings up coming off of their big 50th Anniversary show, it seems likely that Days will get the renewal green light from Sony, but the question is, how long will that last? Will Sony ink a new two-year deal like they did in January 2014?

Or if Days does get to carry on, will it be a shorter term deal? DOOL fans have been on the edge of their seats worried that their favorite soap won’t survive the latest rounds of renewal negotiations and this new shooting schedule issue raises more concerns.

Days has been losing actors and that makes us wonder if they are fleeing a sinking ship or if it’s just natural turnover that’s inevitable on soaps. What do you think DOOL fans? Would you like to see a new schedule with air dates closer to taping so that fan feedback can play more of a factor?

The absolute without a doubt stupidest idea EVER was to shoot 6 months ahead. Didnt save them money on anything. If NBC can get them back to 4 weeks ahead only, great!!
