‘The Young And The Restless’ (Y&R) News: Steve Burton Says Goodbye To Burgess Jenkins, Sympathizes With Billy Abbott Portrayer

“The Young and the Restless” star, Steve Burton weighs in on Burgess Jenkins announcement to leave the show. Steve tells Burgess that he knows it has been rough for him, and he wishes him the best. Burgess Jenkins reported he was exiting the soap after 18 months portraying the iconic Billy Abbott. The network has not made an official announcement if TPTB would recast the role, or they would kill off the character.

Steve Burton once left the role of Jason Morgan on “General Hospital” for much of the same reason. He was commuting so much that it cut into his time with his family. Burton’s family lives in the Midwest, and he would travel each week to ABC studios. His character was a front-burner character, receiving more screen time than the average character. He decided finally that he couldn’t do it anymore, resigned from his iconic role, and moved to “The Young and the Restless” for a much kinder and family-friendly schedule.
Burgess stated in his press release that he has been commuting weekly to the east coast with his family, and it has been extremely rough. He has enjoyed his time with the show and credited the writer and producer for giving him the chance to shine as Billy. He insisted he was not fired, rather he stepped away because it was becoming difficult to work with all the travel involved.

Steve Burton posted to his Twitter in response to his press release, “I have been around a lot of good people, and ur 1 of them. I know it was wearing on you. Godspeed, brother.” Can you imagine traveling across the country every week, and missing your family all week?

Natalie, it would be really good if you had ur facts right before posting ur comments. Steve Burton didnt tire of commuting to the midwest and change to YR. He lived in L.A and worked on GH and moved his family to Nashville, Tenn which is the south not the midwest and asked for back to back taping days so he could begin flying home to Tenn for 4 days a week. They refused so he left GH. YR offered him a contract two months later with the schedule he wanted so he took the job. He ever tired of commutting the way u stated. He wadt commuting at all then.
